2012 Changes? LCI?

Are there any changes to the E89 for 2012? When is the LCI/face-lift?

I have my 2011 35is on order and hope there isn't anything too significant in the pipeline

Look for a 4 cylinder turbo in the i30. Z4 was new in 2009 so look for very very minor changes if any. I hope you jumped on the great lease rate like I did that applies to 2011.

Supposedly there is some new interior color combo coming out (new brown with white stitching - pure design something or other?). Not sure if it will be available in the US or for other markets only.

My Melbourne Red will arrive in late July. The basic Boxster with minimal options was nearly $1000 a month with tax. On the other hand the Z4 is going to be $550 with tax. In my mind a no brainer.

Yes, I agree ... I jumped on the lease deal as well.

BMW usually does LCI's after 4 model years ... and then the last 3 years of the model are the LCI version. The Z4 was new in 2009 ... so the model should stay the same through MY2012 and then will change to the LCI version from MY2013-2015. An all new Z4 should be MY2016. This is what has been done for the E9X 3-series and the E70 X5's.

New engines haven't not necessarily followed the LCI schedule.

Oddly, the E71 X6 should have been LCI'ed for MY2012 following the above pattern, but it wasn't ... so I guess you never really know.

I personally don't think we will see any physical changes this year ... plus, we probably would have seen some spy-shots of one in camo.

What will they do with all these cars when the leases expire?
The residual seems incredibly high if they have to sell them without a loss...

They are definitely going to take a loss ... they are just postponing the loss by 2 years ... there is no way my $75K 35is is going to be worth >$61K in 2 years ... they are going to take at least a $10K loss when I return the lease IMO.

I'm sure BMW realizes that used prices will be 80% of selling price. This is a once in a lifetime offer for a sports car. I will be a member of the new lease club for 24 months.

I was thinking the same yesterday when i ordered mine! i am soooooo happy about this lease...got the 2011 IS almost fully equipped for US$ 525 / month (incl. taxes) - unheard of for a 72+ k car! only downer is that i have to wait till october for delivery...

If anyone has some space gray / coral red combo pictures to share i would love to see them.

also would love to hear about wait times for those who ordered custom built ones...

Cheers,

Cheers,
Why do you have to wait so long for delivery? The last 2011 Z4's are being produced in July ... the factory is closed in August and 2012's will start production in September ... as far as I know if you order a 2012 the current lease rates do not apply (they are for 2011's only) ...

BMW will take the loss. They will reduce the buyout to move the used cars. Obviously no one wants a 2 year old Z4 for $45,000 or more after dealer markup. BMW does this pretty often based on market conditions. Always try to negotiate your buyout because sometimes the dealership can make as much as $5,000 or more on your lease buyout.

Coldnate makes a lot of sense. I will test this in two years at my leases end. Thanks

RAC,
What is an LCI??? Are you folks ordering new cars or just renting them?

Thanks,

It's BMW parlance, Life Cycle Impulse (LCI), describing a slight update/"facelift" mid product cycle, within the same version.

Usually tweaks to the aesthetics (like a different front/rear fascia), tuning/programming, etc.

@Rac10000

What was your thinking on the 35i vs. 35is? I'm thinking about scoring one on these great lease deals, kind of favoring the 35is, though I'll likely do an ESS or Burger tune (kind of making the power bump irrelevant). Right now, I'm comparing an M-Sport package + DCT 35i, which gets it within $5K of the 35is (that has those standard).

Thanks DT,
I've owned at least one BMW since '76 and never heard the term.

I guess you can argue that leasing is a form of renting, but what a deal for 50K+ cars.
