Retrofit 6NR option?

Not sure when my Z4 was built, but i know it arrived at the dealership around Nov 2010. Anyone know if a retrofit of the 6NR option is possible for BMW Apps?

I can practically guarantee you it's possible, assuming you throw enough money at the problem.

By way of comparison, my e85 was built the month before they started putting Bluetooth in all the roadsters. It would have cost over a thousand bucks to retrofit the new TCU, factoring in the very expensive part as well as very non-trivial removal and installation.

You'll probably have to rip out and discard brand-new, expensive electronics and replace them with even newer, even more expensive electronics.

Look for the build date on the door jamb tag. I believe any Z4 built after september 2010 got combox, and 6NR is merely software that uses combox (so I have been told).

That leaves a couple of questions:

- is what you're told (by whom?) accurate?
- if it is accurate, how does one get one's mitts on the software?
- is this one of those things that can only be coded at the dealer?

At least the other thread did not sink to open threats of violence.

I have 6NR aka BMW Apps, with the iphone dock.
Honestly I'm not that impressed.
I never use twitter/facebook/webradio in the car.

I don't like the ipod "plug-in" interface, because it's got black bars on the side, so no side-screen NAV.

I prefer the "snap-in-device" interface since I can keep the NAV up at the same time as the music selection. And I don't think that required 6NR

So I'd say see it in action before you spend an arm and a leg for it. Maybe there will be that killer app in the future, but for now, I don't even use mine.

Plus every time I've snapped my iphone into the dock, I've forgotten to take it out as I leave my car. annoying.
