Rear Quarter Rattle

I am hearing a rattle from the rear quarter of the car while driving with the top up or down.

It sounds like a wire that is loose and tapping on the panel or something.

I have taken the interior apart in that area and secured everything and no help.

I've driven without all of that on it and I can not locate the sound. I am starting to think it may be from the rear wheel well.

Has anyone had this and was able to locate it?

Only thing similar I have experienced is noise from the fuel pump. It sits behind you under the tank and any noise from that travels through the tank which covers a large area in the rear.

Is it a consistent tapping, only happens sometimes, speed dependent, bumpy road dependent? You have left out a lot of details to troubleshoot a noise.

It's only while moving.

The road doesn't have to be rough for it to make the noise, but there is no rattle while sitting still or if the road is ultra smooth.

There is no cadence to the sound, it is just a tapping sound, like a wire tapping on a body panel or trim piece. It is loud enough to be picked up while recording a video on my phone if I hold it in that rear quarter area by the door. It is louder on rougher roads and comes and goes depending on the road.

Top & windows up or down, I have checked the seat belt mechanism by pulling all of the belt out or getting it to lock from a quick pull of the belt and the sound continues.

I also have a rattle in my car. I believe it is rear quarter on the driver's side as if the antenna cable is knocking against the sheet metal. I will have to bring it up when it goes into the dealership for an oil change.

I am doing the same.

I have taken all the interior parts off in that area and secured all of the cables that were loose. That is why I think it is coming from the wheel well or maybe the trunk area.

I had to fix a "clicking" sound on mine which came from behind.

Turned out to be the plastic roll-hoop covers. Try taping those up with some blue painters tape and stuffing something under the trim at the bottom to hold it all still and see if that clears up any noises.

I took mine apart and covered the metal hoop with felt and that stopped the clicking sounds.

Check the muffler mounts. Perhaps it is moving too close to something in the rear

Check for a rock in the tire

The muffler has a ground strap on both sides right near the rear bumper and pipe tips. I once left that loose unintentionally and I had an annoying tapping sound for a while and finally tracked it down to that.
