A month of ownership and someone already hit me
So I'm turning left into my neighborhood the other day and this old guy who was coming out of the neighborhood just decides to go as I'm turning in front of him. I have no idea what he was thinking. It was hard to get mad at him because he is probably in his 80's. He was oblivious to what was going on. Ugh.
New door ordered from Germany and should be here in 1-2 weeks. Lame. I hate people sometimes. |

I'm a big proponent of road testing the elderly. Some just shouldn't be out there anymore.

If it makes you feel better, 15 hours after picking up our new 135i, my partner was rear-ended on the way to work. But now it means not obsessing about keeping the car perfect.

I have to agree about road testing the elderly. This guy couldn't even hear. I had to yell at him when trying to talk to him. I just kept getting "eh?" I handed him my insurance card and he looked at me all confused. He truly was oblivious. He didn't even understand that he should pull off to the side of the road so as not to block it. When he did grasp that concept, he backed up right over the curb.
I have USAA and thank god they're awesome. They're covering all my repairs with no deductible and going after his insurance. His insurance has told mine that they have been unable to get in touch with him for a statement. He's not answered his phone, returned messages or replied to mail. Thank god there was a witness. |

What was the price tag to get that fixed? I'm asking because I just went through an accident claim for my daughter's car, a 06 PT Cruiser. It didn't look like much but the price tag was $2000. Fortunately the other guy's insurance paid for it. I told my daughter that if just the taillight on my Z is damaged it would probably be $1000.

75 - Running North to South through the city and up to Oklahoma (running through Richardson, Plano, Allen, McKinney) 30 - Running East to West below the city connecting Dallas to Ft. Worth and Passing through Arlington (home of the Rangers, Cowboys and Six Flags) 35 - Running North to South along the west side of the city 635 - Running East to West above the city There's also a number of tollways, but commuting on them can add up price wise. Rule of thumb. Rush hour on all four of the major highways is a nightmare, on par with the worst cities I've driven in. Of the four 635 is the biggest ass whip and should be avoided at all costs no matter what time of day it is. They're doing a massive multi-year expansion of 635 and at any given time entire lanes could be shut down. My suggestion would be to live as close to work as possible. If you're working in Dallas proper, avoid moving up north to the burbs. It's easy to get drawn in by the massive house you can buy for less than 300k up there. You'd be spending upwards of two hours in your car every day for that house. feel free to drop me a PM with details about where you're working, age, interests etc. I can point you in the right directions about where to look for housing and where to hang out to meet people your age. Oh, and Dallas kicks ass. It's a great town. |

That pic is hard to look at
I made the mistake once of going to WalMart here in South Florida. I kid you not. The parking lot was like a game of bumper cars. Luckily I was in a rental. |

Traffic here bad - na. Unless you drive..... Just plan on most anywhere taking 45+ minutes and you will be fine. My commute to the airport on Monday mornings is 26 miles and takes ~ 1:15. Let me know what part of town you will be in and I'll fill you in. I'm up in Plano - a very sterile suburb |

Well Just got my baby back and she looks good as new! The shop did an amazing job with the paint matching.
For those curious. Total bill to replace door, bottom trim piece and paint - $2,300. I honestly expected it to be higher. (his insurance will pay 100% of that) One thing's for sure. You want to really appreciate your car? Drive around in a rented Chevy Malibu for a week. Man I missed my car. |

Me too. Wouldn't want to be out of pocket that, but still, not terrible. Congrats on having the car back!

On a side note, I rented the newly redesign Chevy Malibu and took it to Toronto Motorsports Park (was visiting TO and wanted something to do with my older brother....) and guess what... it didn't limp mode (it is so easy to get my E89 too hot here in CA) 30 min sessions of 10/10th driving in a crap car was, surprisingly, awesome... I guess that saying about driving a slow car fast really is true! (hate to say it.. I did not miss my Z as much as I thought I would....) |
