Autostop / Autostart on 35is

I was under the impression that all of the z's had this functionality, but mine does not have the button, nor have I noticed it stopping.

I do have the efficient dynamics sticker still stuck to my rear window... why would a sticker lie?

Did they remove this on the IS or did I miss an option somewhere?

I've never heard of any Z4s having this feature...

"Efficient Dynamics" is not exclusively reserved for a start/stop system.

The term is also valid for engines with "2nd gen direct injection", for "brake energy recuperation", a technique used to brake the car with the alternator by loading the battery primarily in situations when you intend to drive more slowly (this is the reason why you have an extremely expensive AGM battery in your car...). It is also used for the "very useful" shift indicator in cars with manual gearshift.

BTW: The newer 4 cylinder E89 models (20i, 28i) indeed have s start/stop automatic

Best regards

Mick

Is the start/stop mentioned above, the same thing that are in F30?
Car would sputter dead in traffic stop, ten shakes itself back to life? That thing is annoying.

Correct. I test drove an x3 with it took it back and told them there was a problem. I was then explained the function. Bought a Z4 (for DW) instead. Then went back and picked up my 128. Neither one has it and glad.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about and I agree that it would be annoying. Its more of a curiosity to me at this point.

I've attached an except from the manual. It didn't occur to me until re-reading it, but it looks like it may just no get a dedicated button like the other models. That said, I've never felt it do it and it doesn't sound like any of you have either

Got it, so there may be some line drawn between engine builds...which would explain why its in the book since they try to make them pretty agnostic

? Essentially here in the UK, the 23i/30i/35i/35is do NOT have start stop. The N20 based engines for the 20i/28i DO have start stop. It is not year or engine build dependent, it is engine model dependent.

Personally I find it jarring and wouldn't use it or want it on a car until they find a way of not shaking the car around at every re-start.

You are not missing anything ... trust me, I have it on my M3 and never use it ... most that have it never do either it's a wired feeling sitting in the car on a red light without the sound of our engine ... you kinda wonder if it starts again when the light changes to green. Besides the fuel saving is very minimal.

I had a loaner X1 that had the start/stop feature. If you want to be economical, it's not a bad feature and not as bad as some of you think once you get used to it. It was a bit 'shocking' the 1st few times it activated but you get used to it and it's pretty quick on the draw. Of course, you can always turn off that feature, so you get the best of both worlds.
