Changing interior reading lights

Could someone please point me to a DIY guide for opening the central cabin light or explain how to do it? I have a 2010 e89, with the cheaper kind of central light dome. I think it has only one bulb. Thanks

It is very easy.
The complete fixture pulls down and comes to a fixed safety stop when lowered.
I am able to pull mine stricght down with my finger tips. However as this unit has some somression springs it may be stiff.
I would not use screw driver as it will scratch something.
I would use a plasitc trim remover to get the edge of it inserted in between the light fixture and mounting frame.
Once you are able to pull the fixture housing straigt down, appx 1 to 1.5 inches there is saftey stop to keep the fixture from falling out of the frame.
To now remove the fixture and allow access to the 3 lightbulbs which ate located on the top of the fixture housing, you have to push ( I do not recall which end-Passenger or divers side end) of the fixture that the plastic safety tab is located, but once located, this tab has to be pushed in to allow the fixture to drop out past the saftey stop.
Once Out the 3 lamps are located on top side of the fixture.
The 3 lamps are then able to be replaced.
To reinstall you reverse the install with getting the fixture past the saftey stop and then push the fixture back up back into the housing.

A big flat screwdriver is OK if you apply it carefully.

See here: http://bit.ly/1Js8QMC - even the small pics without registering to the forum are quite self-explanatory

Unfortunately, even with a set of plastic trim removers I can't seem to be able to do anything. As visible in the photos, I think my piece has a different sort of attachment mechanism. I'm really afraid to apply any more force, since I might break off the front plastic part.

I believe you need to start from the passenger side of the trim, then it should slide right out if I remember correctly.
