Question What is this in my trunk?

Hi everyone - FNG here and very happy new (to me) owner of '14 35is... with probably a stupid question.

Can anyone tell me what item #11(+12) in this diagram is?

Here it is shown in another picture I cam across:

It seems I have to remove some plastic covers (#15) to snap this into place... any reason why I should - useful purpose? and what are the rubber ties (#12) for?

Believe that is the ski rest you get when you have the option pass thourgh ski storage. This way your skis have support while in transit.

Cold weather package.

That's part of the cold weather package, and yes, it's a support for skis. It snaps in near the back of the trunk when in use, and right at the front for storage (as in your picture). In the pass-through door to the cabin is a plastic bag, attached to the door so you can put in a set of skis so you won't have wet skis in the cabin.

The passthrough is also useful for golf clubs (take the long clubs out of the bag and put them through there).

You can also fit 1 snowboard in there if you remove 1 of your bindings. Done it many times.

Ah - thanks for the info guys. Since skiing has left its permanent mark on my left knee way back when - I don't think I'll be taking out those covers to install this... that is unless anyone has seen any other benefit/use for this. Actually I've been thinking of taking out the pass-thru bag and using the shelf kit instead - but mine only came with one shelf.

One shelf is really enough - not that much space in there. I had though the same thing....

Pass through is useful for a guitar, bass, Slim keyboard, or very large bong.

lol... I've switched to an Arizer Solo -small and very portable (google if unfamiliar), but I did find the pass-thru perfect for a beach umbrella - enjoyed both this weekend

#11 is actually an attachment you install in the trunk near the light to attach grocery bags or other items you don't want to roll around while driving. You pull the ends and unsnap them from the pegs and put the grocery bag handles through the loops and snap back onto the pegs.

Have had several BMW parts people look it up and tell me.
