First service
What is performed on the first service? The service manual didn't say much. I think they didn't do anything on my first service except just look over the car and made a comment on my tyres.
I'm on a corporate plan so didn't have to pay anything. Maybe that's why they didn't do anything? |

They just did my first service, which included the Oil Change and a 30- something point check. This occured at the one year point, since I am still not at the 15k miles yet. They also said to come back again at 15k miles and they'd give me another oil change. Not necessary, but since it's free I'll do it.

not sure what is it like around the globe, but here in the states, we normally get oil change, wipers change, and a inspection of all fluids (top off), tire inspection, wheel damage, brake pads and rotors, and undercarriage. and you can basically tell them to double check anything that you might feel is not right.

is there a written list provided by BMW for their free service?
I've been looking around at BMW website and can't find anything conclusive of what their free service includes. My 35i is a year old and has 12k miles. they didn't give me an oil change because the computer said it can go for 6k more All they did was changed the wiper blade. when I came for service they have multi point service on the work order but when I picked the car it printed not applicable for multi point inspection service. I want to know if I can make them do an oil change and the multi point inspection. --r

They aren't obligated to do an oil change until the OBC tells them to or when the car has been in service for 12 months irregardless of mileage. It is called a low mileage annual service. I will likely have less than 5K on my car when it is a year old.

I just had my first oil change @ 4000 mi. and 9 mo. ownership. The cost was $ 98.00 with the 15% dealer discount. I will get the free one year. In the US the yearly inspection does include an oil change regardless of the mileage. I personally would not drive more than 7500 mi. on an oil change. Fresh oil and a new filter is very cheap insurance against engine failure.

Was told last week by the local BMW dealership they had received a bulletin in September from BMW saying the 12 month oil change was being discontinued unless there was very low mileage on the vehicle since the last change. Supposedly, other than for the low miles situation, the free oil change will be done only when the car's computer indicates service is needed.
So, I'm scheduled to take my Z4 s35i with 9,500 miles on it in for the required North Carolina annual inspection, but will not be receiving the free oil change. These corporate cost savings initiatives are getting ridiculous! Best regards, Ed

They told me the same thing Ed said. I thought they were just BS-ing me.
They told me if its less than 6k in a year then they do an oil change for free, if not wait for the OBC. What really annoyed me is that they changed their promise. they said annually when I bought the car but now they just changed it on their whim. I already changed the oil at local BMW garage at 8k so I'm ok with regards of oil life. but I still feel the whole free service thing a bit dodgy. I lost all my respect for the dealership, they'll not getting business from me. all service out of warranty will be done at local shop. --r

I was told that the new policy for less than 6k the first year started September 2010. I had my oil changed yesterday at my dealership. I rolled up to the dealership with 5990 miles. Dealer changed oil/filter, topped off all fluids, and multi point inspection performed along with break pad readings.

Yesterday when I took the Z4 in for its NC State annual inspection I was told they had just received notice that because BMW got so much strongly negative feedback about discontinuing the free yearly oil/filter change the new policy had been rescinded and the original reinstated. So, I received the free oil/filter change.
Thought you folk would like to know. Best regards, Ed
