Thinking of Buying 09 z4 35i

So I am looking for an e89 35i. I came across a few but a lot of them have the style 296 wheels that is obviously concerning. I know there was a lawsuit blah blah blah, but these cars are out of warranty now and I was wondering if it would be worth buying the car with these wheels.

It seems like they are going to crack, if they aren't already, and if the car is out of warranty, you have to pay to fix them (lawsuit only applies in warranty).

So would any of you buy a BMW with the 296 wheels? Or just pass and go for something else?

Gotcha, I don't think I'll be compensated now though, since I will be purchasing the vehicle after the suite and after warranty.

Seems like a no-go, from what I'm reading these wheels are bound to fail and cost a lot of money to replace and/or fix.

When I was shopping for a used E89 1.5 years ago I never considered a car with 296 rims. Who needs the headache?!

I feel yr pain. Can you get a history read off the key? There are 296 wheels that are ok. Are they 19"
I am annoyed that all of these wheels are not covered ALL OF THE TIME. BMW should want these dangerous wheels off the road but they are playing games $$.
It is a great car though, so hang in there.

I would run what they have on them until they crack and start to leak, then plan on getting a set of 4 18 inch aftermarket wheels without the run flats. If you need tires before that, I would just upgrade the wheels then. On my Z, both of the rear 296 wheels cracked. Aftermarket wheels are not that expensive, and you will save on the tire cost.

Also, are you planning to get an extended warranty? I've done so on my 03 2.5 when I got it used and ended up using the warranty for several things.

If you find a car you like in the condition and price that you are okay with, why not just buy a set of after market VMR rims for it and use those? It would be a shame to walk away from an otherwise great find when you can get a set of VMRs for around $1,000 - ish.

I was thinking about it. Does BMW let you buy this without purchasing the vehicle from them?

I agree with you on that, I have just always been a stock wheels guy. The dealership seemed halfway opened with letting me swap wheels with my trade in (335i) since they are the same size.
