The new X3 looks promising.
I've had both the E83 and the current F25, a huge step up from it's original.
And the F25 is still doing great in my country, in fact the big mowers are pretty much i3 and X3, and so late in it's lifecycle, that's a huge compliment. Having a M in this new X3 line up, that's exciting. But it's not due until late 2017 i guess?

Correct. Hard to get to excited.

The average transaction price of MB is considerably higher than BMW, and when you don't have the luxury of having high end models that compete with Bentley and McLaren like Mercedes and Audi do, going downmarket is only going to drag the brand further south. You can start comparing "image" to MB and Audi when BMW has its 8/9 series or X8 M in place with retail prices above 200k to compensate for the FWD econoboxes, until then, a little context would be nice when comparing.

FWIW the new X3 looks a LOT better than the current one that looks downright outdated compared to its competition. I wouldn't mind seeing an X3M considering that the competition are making similar vehicles, but I'd also like to see BMW compete with the top-end of MB and Audi. Where's our S63/S65 and Audi R8 competitor.. Since BMW is interested in filling all niches as a potential customer I'd be interested in seeing this happen.
Alpina B7, i8?

But yes, BMW is lacking in the ultra top end, over the top for the sake of being over the top models like the S65 AMG. The S63 AMG is better in nearly all aspects, except you can brag about having a V12 and the literal top of the line model when you drive an S65.

Also don't forget Rolls Royce is owned by BMW, so the ultra luxe spectrum is covered there.

While we're at this subject, it's actually beeing adressed.
The 8 ( or 9 series) is coming, closing the gap between the 7 and the BMW owned RR line up.
Judging from the Gran lusso, we're up to something really nice.
While i'm at it, the X5 os getting a more luxurious big brother, the X7 as well.
It's not all FWD 1 series and X1 with sub par X-drive tech that's coming.
And what have VW and Audi to bring to the table, the rebadged Lambo called the R8?
MB have owned this class for decades, now it's getting more heat from BMW, can't wait to see what's their solution to this class.

I'd buy one unless they make a proper 3 series M wagon which is what I really want.

Ouch, my E84 drives very well with the old school hydraulic steering and RWD bias thank you very much It feels like a 3 series wagon of old that happens to sit a tiny bit higher.

I always say "why not?". It makes sense to compete against other brands in similar class.

They won't. BMW has abandoned the wagon market in this country.

Not a fan of the line break being built into the grills like a X1. And it has the, now ubiquitous, iPad in the dash looking nav screen. Could be fun but I'll hold final judgements till the wraps come off.

I am totally in dislike with the iPad on the dash.

It should drop down or flip up/down or something so it's not there all the time.

X3M, X3d, X3 4.0

I can't wait for any of these cars....thinking of going into a 2 year lease in the current X3 just to stretch into getting any of these. I had a 2012 X3 and I miss that thing a lot! Currently have the damn Ford Exploder which I hate and can't wait to get out of ASAP. I am probably stuck in it until November so think I might be able to pull this off...

Updated March 13, 2017:

The F97 X3 M is taking advantage of the inhospitable Northern Swedish weather to test its cold weather chops. It's dropped a bit of camo up front to reveal the production headlights. And we now know that the F97 X3 M will debut an all-new S58 engine, which should also power the next generation M3 and M4.

The X3 M will be introduced in early 2019 and begin production as a MY2020 vehicle (U.S.). The new S58 engine will make 450-460 HP.

Be sure to follow our X3 M updates at: http://www.bimmerpost.com/x3m/

BMW X3 M Prototype

Updated November 7, 2016:

The X3 M has been recorded testing on the Nurburgring!

I can't believe they are this far and it will still take another two years. Hopefully it is a scorcher.

Interested, but very curious about price for CAD. I would guess probably low 70s CAD before options.
