35Kmiles maintenance: spark plugs ?

Hi,
Am out of warranty. I got a CBS warning. Oil change.
When I visit my stealership this morning, the S.A. tells me that spark plugs + brake fluids must be changed as well. All together this 35Kmiles service is going to cost $1020 + tax

Spark plugs change at 35Kmiles ? Really ? Any comment here ?

Thanks.

According the the CBS, plugs are changed out at 45K. Plugs, motor oil and brake fluid are easy DIYs. Save yourself some $ and do a little home maintenance. FWIW, when you buy a $60K BMW, you buy the whole package. And that includes high service bills. Should not be a surprise.

I see you are in Dallas. If you don't want to do it - head over to Euro Connection (75 & Forest). Been using Nino for ~5 years now and a bunch of the e38 guys go there. Fair pricing.

Thanks Jparnes - I'll talk to my regular SA about it. He was absent this morning and I had to deal with someone else...

You can go where ever you want. Your extended warranty, as you know, is for repairs, not maintenance. It' s your car so do as you see fit.

You can change the plugs in the Z4 in less than 30 minutes. Search ZGR6STE2 and buy the pluhs from some source other than from BMW. They are the same plug as the OEM plug. You will need to get a plug socket. I bought my from BMS.

You should be able to buy the plug and socket for less than $100. In the 335i and 135i you have to take a lot apart to get the engine cover off but that is not the case with the Z4. It will come right off without removing any other parts.

Don't use Dielectric grease and torque them to 17 ft lbs. Hand tighten them before you pick up the torque wrench.

Motor oil and brake fluid is almost as easy but you won't be able to change them unless you have a lift or jack stands.
