10 Z4 for 08 997 TT
Hi all,
Frequent lurker, infrequent poster here. I have the opportunity to trade in my 10 z4 35i for a 08 997 Turbo Coupe. Both cars have 16k miles. Had never driven the porsche until yesterday and was absolutely blown away by the accleration and traction. Very hard to stay below the speed limit The deal is fair, but I will have to put significant cash into the deal in addition to the Z4. I'm questioning whether I really want the car that bad. Not to mention, I've only had the Z4 for a year (previous was 07 M Coupe). I have another car for daily driver, so my toys only see about 5,000 miles per year. Would love to hear thoughts, experiences, etc that might help me make my decision. Thanks! |

I think the only knock on the Porsches is cost/value and if you can handle the cost, I don't see any reason not to get one.
I've driven Carrera GT hard on winding norcal mountain roads, and 987.2 S PDK and 997.2 C4S 6MT on the track. All three were a TON of fun. |

Totally different cars. The Porsche is a hardcore sports car, the Z4 is a high performance lifestyle car.
I've grappled with this dilemma several times before. My 2010 Z4 35i is also a weekend car. Every time I would get "this close" to trading it in for a 911 or a Boxster/Cayman, the Z4's beautiful interior, its fantastic seats, and the metal top's convenience always stopped me. |

If the 997 will be used as a lifestyle car, I think it is a lot less clear whether the extra cost is worth it. That becomes more around how much better the owner thinks the badge and shape are |

This must be why 997tt prices keep staying same without dropping. I figured with 991tt out they would start to drop! Are we all shopping for this car? Haha! I digress...
Being one with same "dilemma", I was set on replacing my m3 with z4 and 997tt as well. The new m4 gave me pause but I dunno, have to see when reviews come out. For me I'm looking at replacing a "do everything car" with a cool, quick topless DD and have 997tt for weekend/track days - or c6 z06.... |

the 911 TT is pretty much do everything (other than haul lots of stuff or tow). A good friend of mine uses his 996 TT as a winter car for snowboarding, as well as his daily.
Personally, I think the 996 TT is the best value right now by far. 997 has the round headlights and people will pay a TON extra for that, even though (as I understand it) the 996 is pretty similar to the 997.1 one other thing to throw into the mix... for a weekend/track days car, I think those "prototype replica" cars like the Radicals or even the lightweight tube frame stuff like the caterhams are where it is at. Those will take on all comers for less money than the cars we have been discussing. It just depends on whether you want to be the fastest or if you want to get some status out of the car too. |

Looks like I'm going to make the trade. PPI turned out very well. Will post a couple pics when all is done. Going with the only live once theme on this one 😎

Just a couple quick iPhone pics. Will get her all cleaned up soon, but so far the experience is awesome. The power is addictive. And the man bits remain intact
