A year or so ago, I dug up 300 of my best pics from 15 years with an SLR and had them digitized for 25 cents each. The scans are 8MP and good quality. It would have taken me weeks to have done the same. I have also had digital cams since the late 90s. The '99 540i was from a 3mp Nikon Coolpix 880. The rest are Nikon DSLR pics.

whenever I get nostalgic about all the cars I owned, I remember that most of them couldnt stop worth and damn, couldnt corner, were hot inside in the summer, especially the big blocks, and all the muscle cars got no miles to the gallon. One of the cars I owned was a 440 six pack roadrunner. Loved it and had a lot of fun with it, but when I stepped on the gas, and it climbed through the miles per hour on the gauge, the other gauge moved as fast it seemed. That was the gauge for the amount of gas left in the car. The cars back then, looked good but simply cannot compare to the wonderful technology of the present. Today, actually are the good old days!

When I look at Richard photos like I am going back to time I am not even born yet. Some models’ name I never ever heard of, what a history! Thanks mate.

No. My Porsche is more powerful, lighter, faster, handles better, sounds better, has more interior room, and in my opinion looks better. The Z4 is more comfortable and has a smoother highway ride.

funny that you should say that. A fellow pulled up beside me in a turbo 911 today and he revved it and I mentioned that I just like cruising. Then I put down the top at the light and he smiled and said " on a day like this , I wish I could do that" Both are superb cars though.

How's the interior noise levels of the Carrera S compared to the e89 Z4? Is the Z4 quieter at highway speeds of the Porsche?

The Z4 is much quieter than the Porsche 911. In the Porsche you hear more engine noise, exhaust noise, and gearbox noise (all from behind you of course). But it's good noise. When I drive the Porsche I'd rather listen to the engine than the radio. Unfortunately there is also more tire noise too.

you know, we have so many red light cameras in our town, it makes no sense to race around anyway. Last week, I was going down a street that I knew where the red light camera was, and for a few seconds I wasnt really paying attention and even though I knew where it was, I still got a damn ticket. I hate those things. But on a open stretch of road there is nothing better than that dct transmission when you have it set on sport plus mode and rifle through the gears. I think the dct transmission is one of the best things to come out in years. I like the way it backfires on sport plus mode when you downshift. Just great stuff. Like the old days with the british sports cars, only much better.

I'm considering this car as well (would be a good upgrade from my 335i) but is it true it doesn't come manual at all?

About 7 months in and IMO the '09 35i is certainly the coolest and probably the best car I've had. This is my 4th BMW (others being a '00 528i, and '04 530i, an '06 M6 Coupe and now the '09 35i).
It has a few small issues (roof rattles and a fuel pump replacement), but otherwise is pretty amazing. I can honestly say that with the JB3, 0-60mph acceleration seems not far behind the M6 (although above 80mph the M6 was in a class nearly to itself). That being said, the 35i is wayyy more fun to drive! |

A little off topic, but a follow up to alan64 and richard in NC:
I totally agree with richard in NC, there's no excuse for running a red light. A friend of mine was seriously hurt by a drunk running a red light. We have some major intersections here in the So Cal area with red light cameras. They look like War of the World three eyed monsters with strobe flashes. I don't ever run lights, but once in a while I find myself at the line on a yellow. Rather than cause a ten car pile up you go through. Well, the intersections are so far across that by the time you complete a left-hand turn you can see the strobe flash on the car behind you in the rear view mirror. It's a strange feeling knowing you just dodged a bullet but the guy behind you just handed over between $500 and $1,000 to the man. No doubt that installation paid for itself in about 3 months. I agree, I hate speed radar. |
