Z4 Roadster or Z4 Coupé ?

The new BMW Z4 is only available as a hard-top roadster. So it is in the same time a roadster as it has openning roof, and as a coupé as the roof is metallic and not cloth. BMW says there will be no Z4 Coupe. But I would like to know, from all those that own the new Z4, did you get it because you wanted a 2-seater coupé BMW or because you wanted a BMW roadster? Would any of you prefere a lighter Z4 Coupé instead of your Z4 Roadster? Is there really no market for Z4 Coupé?

My wife likes convertible BMWs. So I bought her a convertible BMW and she was not interested in the M3 convertible b/c she felt it looked like any other 3 series. Whereas, she thinks the e89 styling is unique, gorgeous, and timeless (I agree). I would prefer a light weight and stiffer Z4 35is Coupe if it were my car with edgier handling but no need for it really with the hard-top convertible.

I don't think a Z4 coupe version will be any lighter than the hardtop roadster version. A major redesign would be needed to save weight. So I don't see any benefits for a coupe version. And because the market is very small for a 2 seater coupe (See for example E36/7? and E86 sales) BMW won't spent money on a major redesign.

If money is no issue, buy a GT3 version and make it street legal.

I was going for a used 2009 530/540 touring.

Then I realized it would only be as boring as my 320 touring, but bigger.

And the E89 is as beautiful as the -67 Camaro and Corvette. They have the same line.

So I had to order it! I am missing my Camaro and the Z4 will be a good subsitute. Top up or down!

do you know how much power seats weigh? air conditioning? electronic soft close trunk? the 14 speakers? 19" wheels and tires? 14" steel brakes? the M3 weighs 3700+ lbs with a carbon fiber roof...

If they had two versions, coupe or convertible hardtop, I would choose coupe.

A. Its probably cheaper by $10k
B. Possibly more chassis stable and less flex.

Overall like few had mentioned, best of both worlds, but if BMW did give an option.

I wished s2000 came as hardtop coupe versus a removable hardtop. And I wish they released a new improved s2000, which may have swayed my decision to buy the z4.

You are right in saying this. But could you explain me the 5 GT (F07)? A Z4 Coupé is more of a BMW than a 5 GT. Well, it is very sad, I am one of the very few who would like a Z4 Coupé.

The F07 is mainly based on the 7 and X series. I guess BMW will sell more 5 series GT than Z4's. So the 5 series GT development could be a better investment.

The E89 coupe would only make sense if the BMW M division did the design and could reduce the weight (< 1400Kg), powered by the M3 V8. But the price would still be an issue.

this z4 is a 2 seater spider, never saw a coupe with such a big sunroof ...
The roof of every coupe has "stiffening " properties for the body....cause it's very well welded....
so for me it's a 100% 2 seater spyder

I would have purchased an M-Roadster if it were available as E89. I enjoyed the precise steering wheel feedback and edginess on my old E85 Imola Red M-Roadster. IMHO, it was the easiest to drift around the corners. I think I would have kept it if it were a retractable hard top.
