Hardwire radar

Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you hardwired your radar...(a V1)
Since this car only has one 12V oulet under the armrest...

If you did, can you let me know how you went about accomplishing it?

Thanks in advance!

There should be a 12v outlet in the passenger footwell. It is deep under the glovebox just right of the console. I use that and just keep the V1 cord plugged in there the whole trip.

To answer your question, I'd bet there is a 12v line up in the windshield header but someone else will have to comment on how to get into it. Most BMW sedans have folks getting in behind the dome light.

OMG i did not know there was another 12V outlet there...
Why would they put one there...hidden...

And I guess I don't know how to search efficiently.
I searched "hardwire" and nothing came up...

Thank you for that link!
It will help me out a lot.

Ok...so what is the best way to remove the dome light fixture without damaging it?

Does it just "pop" out?

I will do this probably tomorrow. I am going to use a vinyl tool set to wedge the tabs out.

See it pays to read the manual sometime on a rainy day

After years of not owning one, I decided to get a radar. Boy have things changed since my last one. FWIW I got the Escort 9500ix (paid for itself several times over already). Got tired of plugging it in under the passenger foot well. I got a hold of the Escort hardwire cord, fed it under the panels and into the passenger side. Spliced right into the 12v down there (easy enough to do) put the little controller in a easy to get spot. Fed the power up through the steering column - clean enough, 20mins tops. Looks good, easy to do.

Or, you could go cordless. I can't stand having cords everywhere, so for years I sported an Escort Solo detector. Fitted a velcro strip on the dashboard, and a corresponding strip below the detector. This allowed me to keep it quite stealthy and install/remove it easily.

I plan on getting a Solo 2 for the Z4.

True I wanted to love the Solo2, got one and drove around a week with it. In my view wasn't good enough to keep it enter the 9500ix. Night and day difference in functionality and sensitivity. I agree, I hate the cords but hate tickets even more especially the speed light tickets.
