Question Market survey: Crowdfunding for the car enthusiast?

I thought you guys would be a good group to survey since after all, we're all car enthusiasts here. I'm interested in your thoughts as to whether or not you see a crowdfunding market for not only new cars but used cars, OEM parts and of course aftermarket parts?

If you're not familiar with crowdfunding, crowdfunding is a method for people to raise money from friends, family and outsiders for pretty much anything. While I understand owning a car is a privilege, you might not get the same financial help from your supporters as you would with someone campaigning for medical bills their insurance won't cover. However, if someone who has cancer had a wish to drive a Ferrari for a day then maybe a crowdfunding campaign for a Ferrari driving event would make more sense?

Either way, interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

Mike

If it's for a good cause like someone with a life threatening disease and they want to experience something car related for a day, I would not mind chipping in a little bit.

If little Billy want's to get an ebay exhaust, B16 swap, chopped springs, and a basket full of stickers for his Honda Civic..., then there's that line that's been crossed.

Isn't there another site that does something similar? Kickstarter or something like that.

There are many crowdfunding platforms out there but this would be a niche platform geared specifically to the car enthusiast. Most of the time money is raised from friends and family.

Yeah, but is it just for personal venture because you don't have the money to fork over for parts yourself or...., are you dying and have a dream left to be fulfilled?

One constitutes a legitimate source for donation or support, the other constitutes building a reputation and finding a company to sponsor you (or your own wallet).

Crowdfunding is essentially begging but you give something for their money. I don't like beggars but I do like giving.

I am indifferent

More so for the latter but then again, you may have teens willing to help their friend get that new (used) car. In my research I've concluded that while the current millennials and gen Z's don't make as much as previous generations at their respective ages, they are more willing to donate to their friends when compared to later generations. This would be the market segment to tap.

I seriously doubt that half achieve success. What are you basing that off? Not in this economy

Are we pro helping a person with a life threatening disease drive their dream car?

Sure!

Not sure I follow the other part of your question.

This smells of a retro-edit SEO spambot, waking up a 7-year-old thread. I haven't reported it yet, until it un-cloaks in a few days.....

This would be about the same as asking for gifts (gift registry for money/gift-cards?). Is there anybody out there who is going to donate $$ to somebody's car project that is not already in regular contact with them? If so, pleas IM me, I've got my heart set on some new parts (but not dying anytime soon).

Successful crowd-funding seems to involve entrepreneurs who are wishing to fund a marketable process or product to interested investors or prospective purchasers.

Go-Fund-Me is for verifiable charity cases and to help with hardship expenses.

Few will contribute to personal car expenses unless it's just so absurd that you are paying for the right to say you were a part of it. Look at some of the dumb shit that people will purchase off Ebay.

How about the opposite? Set up a ransom site for people to pay you to remove the stupid shit you put on your car, like burble tunes…
