What tires are on your E89?
Tires on an E89 are super important because the OEM 2nd Gen RFTs are crazy hard and E89 enthusiasts love to replace them with non-RFTs for a better ride and handling. But the only other tire I see discussed here is the Michelin PSS. What other replacement tires are being used? My BMW service rep mentioned that even the low price Korean brands are used on E89s. What say you? "What's on your Z4?"
I will start the thread off: replaced the OEMs with 3rd Gen RFTs. Bridgestone Potenza RE060AS, 225/45/17 stock size with 40,000 mile warranty. Huge improvement in ride and handling. |

I have a set of Dunlop Direzza ZII on order in 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 size. They were supposed to be on the car this Saturday but vendor dropped the ball.
Will report back once I have had a chance to test them out a bit. My first choice was BFG g-Force Rival but they did not come in the sizes I wanted |

I have PSS but other good tires are Potenza Pole Position S-04 and the new (and better tread wear rating) Potenza RE970A S. Both highly ranked on Tire RAck

I just use the cheapest tires I can find locally (forgot the name). Surprisingly they actually grip the road better than those OEM RFT potenzas. I assume it is because they are softer/more flexible and get less "up-set" by uneven road-surfaces. The 18" equipped Z4s also produce higher g-forces and slalom speeds than those running 19" - probably for the same reason.
Mine are exactly the same size as the original Potenzas (225 + 255 on 18inch wheels). I like to drift a little so I did not want tires that were too sticky or expensive to replace. Note that PSS tires are more expensive in China compared to the US. Other than that I use non-RFT mainly because they produce less tire-noise and are more comfortable for grand touring. Obliviously the steering, suspension and ABS are optimized for RFT tires, so if you want the most "direct" feel I would probably recommend: 17 or 18" with 3rd gen RFT or 19" with non RFT. |

Continental Extreme Contact DWS
F 245/30/20 R 295/25/20 Great price, great handling in dry at that width. Gets a little promiscuous when wet. I'd give it a 8.5/10

I ran a set of Continental DWs (not the all season DWS) when I replaced the run flats and they were a big improvement. Now we have the Michelin PSS and I am in love.
