Factory Tint?

I went to detail my car today but I also asked to tint it. The detailer looked at the window and said it already has a factory tint.

Anyone know what % it is from factory? The window looks almost untinted to me.

Did you buy this car second hand? Maybe the previous owner applied tint. They don't come from the factory that way.

either way, you can get new tint. they would just peel off the current tint.

I bought it second hand but he opened the door, looked at it and then at me and said its factory tinted.

I honestly looks clear as glass. I've seen all kinds of tinted cars and it doesn't look tinted at all.

Either way, I should find another tinter. While I was researching this on the forums, I found a few people who mentioned the... "circles" on the glass causes the tint to bubble up a little. What is your experience like?

tint from the factory is inside the glass, which is very light, & will have no effect on aftermarket tint.
some dealers will have tint applied before the first sale.
idk what "circles" on the glass are, but only poor installation will cause bubbles. (or smaller radius curves)
tint is a soft film on the inside of the glass. you can test by pressing on the surface with a fingernail.
if you want darker tint, get it.

check your state's laws on allowable tint. If you have some type of inspection in your state, that is where you may run into trouble if you go too dark. NC is noting less than 32% light emittance (sp). Most tint shops should be able to tell you what the law is and most will allow you to select darker than the law will allow. Hey they charge to remove too if you get a citation for it.

Tint removal:

Spray massive quantities of "simple green" on tint.
Cover tint with black plastic. Tape up - looking for sealed inside so moisture will stay
Close doors, park in sun, wait a few hours
Check every hour to verify still wet, if not spray some more

Should come off with no tools needed, be careful around rear window defroster lines

Yea, it is just that easy...
