cold start prb?
First time it happened to me, I left my car outside for 6 hours in 2C/36F weather and when I started the car, it was shuddering and had the 'yellow engine' symbol on. I tried to put it in D but it automatically went into N. The engine felt like it was dying and just wouldn't get into gear. I then switched it off, waited a few seconds, and restarted it, this time it was ok. Still, a minute into the drive, when I made a stop at a stop sign, the engine was shuddering a wee bit. Afterwards, the rest of the drive was normal/uneventful.
Is this just weather-related or should I get it checked? I've driven/parked in similar weather conditions for the past 2 winters but this was the first time I experienced the 'shuddering' and 'yellow engine' symbol. If useful, car is 3.5 years old and over 100,000km/60,000miles. Thx in advance. |

cold start not a problem in current temp. you may want your dealer to take a look at that check engine light. I hope you still have warranty.

Unfortunately warranty long gone.

LOL, that is so stretching, just because I live in Toronto? Doesn't even make sense, you need to try harder. Besides, that guy is so fat, doubtful he's ever had a cold day w/ all that insulating blubber. Last edited by tranquility; 11-19-2013 at 08:44 AM.. Reason: combine posts |

Do you mean sparkplugs? I just had them replaced 87,000km/54,000miles. This is concerning...

Started again under similar situation tonight, no prb...maybe a 1-time thing?
Not sure would tranny fluid have anything to do w/ this...? In any event, will probably do that '2 year check' thing that I put off for so long since my oil change is coming up. |

If I was paying out of pocket, I would start with coils, then injector cleaner, and only replace the injectors one bank at a time as the final step. |

^Thx, I'm due for a checkup anyway...I assume that dealer will be able to know that the car showed the 'yellow engine' symbol that night and figure out what's going on?

I'm out of warranty so that sucks if I need all that. Had my 2nd cold start limp, so definitely have to book an appt.

Such a coincidence this thread came up on our forums. A friend recently had the same issue and fix on his 2008 335. I wonder if this is just part and parcel of having an N54 |

It was covered under the last year of original 4 year warranty (up in March 2014). Have 2 more years (till march of 2016) as car was CPO. Shop supervisor was great but needed to play by BMW rules to replace what he did.

Just had exactly the same issue with cold start. They replaced the plug and coil. I will pick it up in the morning. I think this could be the start of something that so many people are having the same issue. Mine was fixed at 46K miles so just under warranty.
