Soon to be BMW Z4 35is Owner

I gotta say, I'm pretty excited. I've been researching and shopping around for almost half a year. My biggest choices was between the Z4, an SLK350, and a C6 corvette. I did alot of back and forth weighing the pros and cons of each and finally decided on the z4.

I waited a long time for the perfect price color trim etc and after a lot of negotiating, I got a 2011 35is in Atacama yellow for 32,500 with 26k miles. All the paperwork are done, the shipping company will contact me Monday for arrangement. I'll post pictures when I get it.

My only regret is not waiting even longer. I don't find any car with all my preference for the 6 month search and of course after I buy it with paperwork signed, I findthe same z4 trims and color with 16k miles only for 33k which I am positive I can talk down to the same 32,500. O well.... Guest that's how shopping for anything is.

congratulations! my choices were very similar, but also considered a cayman S & SL550.

the reason i ended up choosing a 2013 35is?
it was the one i could afford.
but i'm happy with it i like the technology & how well everything is designed & works. rather than having microsoft office installed, i would prefer to have more blistering-fast-stupid-fun-tire-roasting ability, but it's a good ride

That is a good price. I just sold a 2009 35i with 50k miles for 26k, so you got a good deal.

I watch a lot of auctions (Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, etc) on tv and am always amazed how many 10 year old SL550s cross the block selling for a fraction of their original price. I'm talking $10-15k for relatively low mileage well-presented cars!!

Just joined the club. Bought a 2010 Z 4 3.0 6 speed with 8600 miles for 25.4K. Car is in show room condition. As a long time Vette guy I wanted something different. Couldn't find a decent low mileage Boxster and found the Z 4. I was knocked out by looks and condition. The metallic blue was the kicker. Just got it home. First step is too replace run flats. I hate those lead donuts

The SL550 was too long to me. I wanted a cayman and boxster but the price just wasn't close enough, in almost all chase with same miles, it was more expensive. And I never liked the interiors of the Porsche, it never looked nice enough for its price point but thats just my opinion.

Its a good deal, it just bothers me that a week later, I see an identical one with 10k miles less and everything its not sold, it just taunts me lol now I feel I its not as good as a deal I thought it would be.

The corvette is a very close 2nd for me. How is your experience comparing it to the Z4?

I could not fit in the caymen

SL550 - hit my head on the top when sitting in it

G37 - just "big"....

I can comment on the Vette. The replacement to my Z4 was a C6 Z06. The LS7 is a fantastic engine and they are completely different cars. The Z4 has a better interior and I guess that I don't need to tell you the differences between a 7 liter V8 and the N54. I was actually pretty shocked by how well the CZ6 handles. Nothing against the Z4, but the suspension is rather soft and IMO too soft for the engine. I had KWv3's on my Z4 and it made it much better but still not in the same category as the CZ6. However, you can drop the top on the Z4 which I do miss on the Z06. Both are great cars.

Yeah, they're both definately great cars. I can't express how tough of a decision it was. I felt the C6 was a little more reliable, had a lower 5 year cost of ownership, and cheaper because I feel like I wouldn't need to purchase an extended warranty like I did on the Z4. But in the end of the day, I think the looks of the Z4 convinced me. I loved the interior of the atacama yellow and the gloss black piano trim. I prefer white cars and I'm not huge on yellow car but I loved the interior enough to decide on the yellow z4.

While I love the thought of owning a 400+ hp car or 500 (found a z06 with 40k miles around 34k), I felt I couldn't make full use of the corvette motor in Chicago and I don't go to the track anyways so I feel in the next 3 to 5 year of ownership of the car, the Z4 made more sense to me.

Unbelievable...

That other car that I am talking about with 16k miles. It was in North Carolina and they put it up for auction. A dealership here 5 miles away from me bought it so now its here in Chicago lol

Never look back once you buy... The other one might have had issues!

And, 10k in mileage is nothing overall.

Congrats and enjoy. Fabulous car and incredible color!

Cheers.

Alabama. They called the shipping company last week. I just got a call today that the car is going to be picked up today. So I will have it either late tomorrow or early Wednesday.

Either way, I won't be able to drive it for another week or so after receiving it. They still have to send the tax over to Chicago then I have to wait on some paper from the state showing I have the taxes has been received or something before I can register it. I won't have a temp license either because they told me they don't do temps in AL or something. Forgot the exact wording.

Just got the car today. Here are some pictures as promised.

Wow the car looks beautiful in person, the picture does it no justice. The yellow looks like a more dark orangish yellow in person.

Very nice, you're going to enjoy it.

But get rid of that ///M badge - it doesn't belong on that car!
