Yikes, over $4k for front brakes only? Ummm, too rich for my blood. For that kind of money I'd rather buy some BBS forged wheels.

+1, stock brakes seem fine to me.

It doesnt represent value, esp considering you can get the 135i 6-piston BMW performance Brembos for under $1000. I just need to know if anyone has fitted them to the e89.

Agreed.

Those brakes look hot, but even the $3,000 setup is a little high considering you can't do the back as well.

Aesthetically, it will make your car look very odd. - Drilled/slotted rotors at the front with a big red caliper, then at the back the stock old thing. That's one reason I wouldnt pay so much for it. Each to their own.

Brembo pricing is outragous! For racing maybe (if they are sponsoring you) for the street forget it! Not out to pay for another CEO's bonus. I'd rather spend 3 grand on a nice vacation then upgrading to these.

I with you on that one!

Companies wouldn't be able to sustain pricing like that if they didn't have a crowd willing to pay. High performance car parts to men are the same thing as clothes to (some) women shoppers. If you can see it you want it - cost? - who cares.

You look at the product and say - they have about $30 - $40 in materials, another $100 or so in labor plus packaging. I bet there's not more than $250 cost at the manufacturing level (including R&D). Add some profit and you've got a set that sells retail for $3,000. A few more centimeters diameter to the rotor plus two more pistons in the caliper and you have a $1,000 more. Pretty good business and people are waiting in line.

Unfortunately the only reason the rear is not available is because of the electronic e-brake. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with BMW's cars.

Brembo's engineers always start out wanting to provide a 4-wheel kit. And for nearly every other BMW to date, that's never been a problem.

If anyone is worried about the rears matching, we can match the drilled or slotted pattern with a set of sport rotors. If you're really worried about it, go with the black calipers, or pick a color and color match the rears.

I totally agree with you that BMW skunked up the works with the electronic e-brake. I can see it for a platform like the 5 series and above, even the X series, but the Z's are still in the realm of old school sports cars and a regular mechanical hand brake is a good thing. Of course, I think a real dipstick is a good thing, too, so maybe I'm a little too old school for the directions BMW is going now days.

I'm curious about your suggestion on the slotted pattern- are we talking about the rear rotor?

A big disappointment that it is $3k-4k just for fronts. ugh. Part of my desire to change out from stock was for aesthetics - with the 329M wheels, the rotor/calipers are so visible, and the stock ones are just plain hideous looking.

If you only want to upgrade the brakes for aesthetic reasons I'd recommend getting the E9x BMW Performance brakes. The fronts can be had for $921 from BMW of Lincoln right now. I'm pretty sure the E9x is a direct bolt on for the E89. Here's the part# 34110444738. While almost $1k certainly isn't cheap either it is 1/3 of the cost for Brembo. The entire kit front and rears (#34110444769) are $1815, but I don't think we can use the rears due to the e-brake on the Zed.

But they look so good:

If you guys are looking for a little cheaper upgrade you might want to consider checking out these rotors:

They are available in gold, silver or black and you have a choice of 1 or 2 of the following: Drilled, slotted or dimpled (or double slot or double drill etc)

Will be slapping on the 6-port Performance brakes this week for the front only. Yes. The Yellow Ones. Since swapping my shoes with the 19" 313s, the stock brakes really look ugly and unsightly; exposed by the sparse spoke design of the 313s. So yes, to me it is aesthetic purpose. Better braking feel will be a bonus. For the current price, it is still pretty value for money option.

I found in Italy that there are also performance calipers in dark grey, not only yellow.....
Cost is the same but I won't spend that money only fro front brakes....

You asked me to stop your mod bug... I think someone posted that the 1 series brakes do not fit on our Zed...
