Is the Z4 28i Expensive?
I ask this because it seems like most reviews on the new 28i with the new N20 engine says it's way too expensive. Motorweek even suggested skipping it and just going with a 1-series convertible.
To me, it really isn't that expensive at all. First, it's a hardtop convertible and the car pretty much doubles as a roadster and coupe. The new engine maybe an i4 but it is turbo charged and more fuel efficient. It produces the same or better numbers (auto is almost half a second faster than the 30i), just as fast and more mod friendly. Plus BMW is just the first to do it, Benz is coming out with their own turbo charged i4 and chances are the price will be similar or close to this. Other will likely follow after that except for Porsche. The price did go up from the 30i to the 28i by $1200 but the new 8-speed auto transmission option cost nothing. The manual transmission gets a start-stop system as well. I am not 100% sure if this was a standard feature before but the new 28i has the Driving Dynamics Control included. Along with the ipod/usb adaptor, power seats, alarms and mort importantly floor mats! I might be biased because I do own a 28i but even before I bought it, I still found the price to be pretty fair not to mention the discount/deal on BMWs are great and the free maintenance the first 4 years is a great perk. What do you guys think? Is the 28i really too expensive for what it is?
