even if the 4 banger is more powerful on paper it can't replace the smoothness running of a i6 engine, not to mention that it can be the last of its kind i'll go whit the 6.

Correct In-line 4, 1997 cc/121.25 in³, in 28 trim the weight advantage is only 30lbs, but 20% less fuel consumption. Not sure of the 30lbs weight differance is balanced by the loss of 13hp, but I am sure the addition of 30lbs/ft of torque will factor in. Makes for an interesting choice. having heard both, I like to 30 sound better but Kellener Tuning does have a Tuning Kit in the works for the 28 which yields 294HP

Sorry, i mean Inline-6. my bad.
Ye i am just curious on the i4 turbo, cause it could be tuned by kellener, and i am expecting a great difference in acceleration. but i am not sure how much would actually be in the rear. Maybe i should opt for the I6.. but then again the tune-able engine of the I4 to nearly 300bhp similar to the 35i is very tempting... |

Choose the I6. 4 cylinder exhaust sound is anemic. Maintenance will be far less with the naturally aspirated 6 cyl. and it has the reliability in it's history.

4 turbo - more tuning, less gas
already dynoes out there that show that 4 turbo is very under rated

My recommendation would be to take the sdrive30i mind you the turbo charged might just be as good, you need to drive them both after all once you decide it will be your babe for a while
Good Luck!

I've test driven the 30i and currently own a 28i and beeen enjoying for a month now so my 30i recollection might be a bit clouded by now.
I feel the 28i new N20 engine sounds more eager and angry. The turbo lag is barely noticeable too. 28i also feels a bit faster, probably due to the increase in torque. Feels more "grunty" and aggressive too. When test driving the 28i, definitely put it on sport or sport+ mode, you won't appreciate the engine and sound in normal/comfort mode. Makes a ton of difference. The NA6 will be smoother but to be honest, after a month of daily driving the 28i, I hardly notice it at all unless I climb back to my Lexus IS and feel the slight difference in the two engines. If you plan on getting it in auto trans, the 28i has 8-speed compared to the 30i's 6-speed iirc so it's up to you if that will make a difference. Also as what others have said, it's tunable and the stock numbers are underrated. After tuning, it'll be putting out 35i numbers. And with this new engine coming out for the 328i and 528i, I'm sure most aftermarket companies are focusing on coming out with a few toys for this engine now. Although gas consumption isn't my main priority, with gas price reaching $5 a gallon soon in the US, it is nice that 28i is 20% more fuel efficient.
