trunk space question

have a question for current owner. how much space, or exactly how many luggage can be fit into the trunk?

trying to fit 2 carry-on size + a mid-size hard case luggage for 2 weeks trip. looking for someone can share some experience. pic would help too.

TIA!

Had the same dilemma only I ordered the car sight unseen to be picked in Munich on our honeymoon. How do you pack for two weeks yet be assured you'll be able to put the top down...? The solution was simple for us. We ordered these and never looked back.

Wraith,
thanks for the info. we're not worry about putting the top down. we got enough time to do that when the car comes back home later. we just want to make sure we don't bring something that's not going to fit. it's not easy to pack light for 2 weeks worth of stuff especially with a woman.

I would bring the bags you are going to pack up into your dealership and try it out in a Z4 before your trip. That way you are guaranteed that your stuff will fit. The CA might look at you weird, but if its the dealership you will be servicing with they shouldn't have a problem to help you out.

i thought about that. except Z4 is so rare now for dealer stock. almost impossible to find one sitting on the lot now. my dealer doesn't have one & won't have one before i leave for ED.

Used ones have the same boot / trunk space as a new one.
There will always be one somewhere...

We picked up a set of the Roadster bags in Frankfurt at the store outlet. We were visiting one of my wifes relatives so we drove up after delivery. If you order ahead they will be there waiting for you. Otherwise you can easily fit 2 carry ons. This one is a Costco model on the right. Roadster bag on the left. We traveled for 3 weeks with the Roadster bags. We flew over with a expendable/trash carry on size (checked) and a couple of duffles. Reloaded in Frankfurt and were on our way. Limited our top down driving till after we checked in at a locale, where we usually stayed for 2-3 days. Actually there is quite a bit of room if you leave the top up. Enjoy your ED!

Just for reference, my wife and I just went on a two week road trip in our Z. We took two of the Costco carry-ons that HerrK posted. We drove top down everyday sometimes in 105+ degrees. I used at least two shirts a day. We still managed to go for 10 days before we had to find a laundromat. The Costco luggage fits perfectly at 1/4 of the price of custom luggage ala Roadsterbags.

thanks man. the pics help a lot. looks like i might be able to fit what i'm planning to bring, with consideration the top will not be opened during the trip.

this is what i have in mind. 2 carry-on, plus a mid-size. i don't think we can go lighter than that, and hopefully wifey won't do much shopping.

Well see I live in rainy Portland OR. I put the top down every chance I get. I drive with a sweater on and the heater going in 40 degree weather if it's not raining. I bought a convertible for a reason. I never understand people that put up with all the shortcomings of a vert and then have the top up on beautifull sunny days with 75 degree weather. Besides 105 doesn't feel so bad when you're going 140 on the 380 in the middle of nowhere New Mexico

Dimensions: 21.5“ x 14” x 8.75“ (2.5" in expansion). You can fit two of those in the trunk and still put the top down. Here's the link to Costco http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodid=11523933

The hard cases maybe more challenging. The soft cases are more pliable and forgiving in the boot. You'll probably be OK with top up. Best of Luck
