Lease Ending Soon: Buy Vs Switch??

Hi all - The lease is ending in few months for my 2009 35i. I have less than 10000 miles on it. The car is in very good condition other than one rear end accident which shows in the carfax. (The car is fully loaded, all options other than parking sensors and trunk pass through.) I have about 46K left to pay.

Should I buy the car or leave it, what do you think?

Any chance I can negotiate with BMW finance due to accident? Any tips?

Thanks a lot

If there are still any 2011 Z around, I would jump on getting into one of them and dump the few remaining payments into the new deal (not always a smart idea, but w/these lease specials you can't go wrong). If you can't find a 2011, I would still return the car at lease end. One of the perks of a lease is when you are in an accident, you don't have to worry about the deminish value--just return it. You don't want to have to worry about the DV on the carfax when you eventually do sell it.

check local listing for similar cars, with an accident u will have a problem getting a good price for it later.
seems a little high for a buyout, i would go with a new lease with current deals

I agree with what the others said above.

Huge hassle to sell a car that's been in an accident even a minor one especially a relatively high end car.

I would look to get into a lease quickly in a 2011 Z4 35i/35is unless you love the car in which case buy it out and keep it for a few years.

How long was your lease? and your down payment + monthly payments? Calculate what you already spend then decide if it is worthwhile to keep the car or trade up to something higher like a 2010 or 2011.

What you paid so far and still have to pay (cash out, finance or continue the lease) will help you decide what to do In my case all transactions were cash from a 2002 e46 to a 2008 e85 to a 2009 e89 then back to the 2011 M3 e92 (yes I lost money in all them deals, then the Z4's gave me the fun I was looking for).

Good luck, perhaps your best bet is to trade up like the others said ... just crunch the numbers then decide.

By the end of the lease I would have spent close to 24K (including down payment)

Thanks everyone for the input, it hurts to let a barely used car go...

I will check if there are any 11's left.

There must be - last I heard Z4s were averaging almost 200 days on dealer lots. The Z-cars are always late bloomers. A retired car salesman stopped me at the grocery store to admire my Z3 coupe and reminisced about how slow they were to sell.
