JB3 VS 35is
I'm running JB3 map 3. Wonder how it stacks up against the 35is? I mean how much does software plays a factor in how much better the car performs? I just had my software updated to the latest version firmware at the dealer and everything feels smoother. From engine to transmission. Do they use a different version firmware for the 35is?

I always use BP Ultimate, its expensive, but pretty much the best you can get. They market it as Octane 100. |

Apparently everything is linked and you can't just fix one thing, you have to update the firmware. But since I had the firmware updated, the transmission feels MUCH SMOOTHER. They'd do it at no cost to you during the schedule maintenance or if you have any problems with the car. |

The nav screen turns blue, and reads "please hit iDrive button to reboot car" while you're at 80 mph in 3rd gear on a mountain road...

as stated elsewhere, the new ECU's in the 35i engines (both 35i and 35iS) have been changed by BMW to make it much harder to crack ... don't know how the jb software works ...

Absolutely no problem! They have different ECUs so it hasn't actually been done. I'll go ahead and contact Burger Tuning to see if this is in the works. Quote:

I just went through a bunch of hoops etc regarding software. I had Rev 759 and wanted the Dinan Stage II put in , BUT the dinan Stage II was written to communicate with Rev 760 and when the dealer tried to update the BMW software it defaults to the latest version Rev 761. So now we had to wait for the new dinan package to be written for Rev 761.
After sending the ECU to California for the remap (the internet version wasn't done yet) I finally got it done. The car is smooth as silk, the DCT is excellent and the car feels like M power. Actually it is quicker then my old M3 was The BMW software cost me $135 to get done because there was no "BMW" reason to do it. If I'd needed a part replaced then it would have been free... Note: I looked at the JB chips and decided to go with the Dinan for a few reasons, warranty and the total remap of the systems instead of just the pressure boost . I'm not saying one is better than the other, it was just my choice. Ciao. |
