Say it ain't so

Just opened the new issue of Automobile Magazine. An article inside says a new generation z4 has a good chance of being developed with Toyota who will
be building a new Supra. The article poses the question whether this joint
venture will alienate current BMW owners. They say a small run of specialty
vehicles is too expensive for BMW and that only 4,500 Z4's were sold worldwide
last year. Looks like my new 35is will be a keeper.

Really makes me wonder:

If (and this is assuming the article's #s are correct, which they may or may not be) there were really 4500 Z4s sold WW last year, and if we say what, 10% of those were ISs, thats 450 cars in 2012. I think 10% is high for ISs, I think its more like 3-5%.

For argument's sake, using 10%, we'd be talking about 2700 cars total across the 6 year model run. That puts it on or abouts the same volume for the E85/6 M cars.

What do you guys think?

(also, apologies for any perceived thread jack)

If it means 1000hp is very achievable like the supra TT and that "handling purity" will be exceptional like the FT86 I'm good with that.

If it means it will a heavy slow fwd convertible that has Prius electric motors driving the rear axle to give the marketing message of "sport awd with fuel efficiency" then count me out

Hate to admit it but I love that these things aren't selling well. A little extra exclusivity never hurt anybody right/

Totally agree.

If its anything as awesome as the FT86 but more luxurious and powerful then I don't mind giving it a try, I think that's in line with their initial goals. If it's a Z2 they are talking about then I don't give a hoe's ass but if its indeed a z4 with a joint venture like this, it would definitely be a rwd turbo awesome machine with a choice of roadster or coupe.

If toyota's next supra is gonna be more or less the same as their joint ventured z4 then . I;ll keep my current e89 and buy their next supra.

+1

I am over-joyed by the present, regardless of whether BMW is making a profit from it or not. Cheers
