Bridgstone Blizzak WS70 Question
So, weather has been strange in Germany this year. Finally had a good chance to gain an opinion on Blizzaks.
Driving back from Munich to Stuttgart on A8 today, I have to say these tires scare the shit out of me! On dry roads, you have to be carefule braking, on a wet slushy road I have had less of an ass puckering experience driving my old Camaro SS over here on summer tires in the winter. It is the initial braking, for some reason my car gets very squirrley, then settles down but it is plain awful. So, has anyone else experienced what I am talking about? I am running a 17" setup and thought I was going to be solid this winter, now I am kinda scared to drive the Z4 in any bad weather. Thanks for the feedback. |

I know the feeling
I put some aggressive winter/ice tires. 205/50 17 continental extreme contact on my 135i. This was the recommended setup from tire rack. The tire was squirmy and made driving very weird. I complained and they let me return the tires, and I got a set of 225/45 17 blizzack LM's. They are great on dry winter highway drives and good in snow. I recommend a more performance oriented winter setup. Good luck

No offense to drivers in Germany, but stops in villiages can sometime be abrupt. That being said, these tire love to "skid" when hitting the brakes.
I am trying to get a good read from them. Today was 75 mph with slush keeping with traffic. I suddenly felt I did not belong with traffic. I am coming from an X5 to a Z4 but the Goodyear tire on the X5 were awful. just seeing what others thought. |

If they are brand new tires, it takes them a couple of miles to "break in". But I would expect the distance Stuttgart <-> Munich to be enough of a break in.

Went with the Pirelli Zerosotto as a package from BMW and are pretty happy with them. Haven't had much snow so far this year, but previously the have been pretty good in snow and slush. They are a bit softer than the summer setup, and a bit squirreller when it is above freezing, but overall not too bad.

I ran Pirelli winter run-flats last winter on our Z4 too, in Winnipeg. No problems with them on snow & ice. As always, a light foot and looking way ahead always helps avoid the Other People out there.
