Real duct tape is metallic stuff that is used on ... ducts. Duck tape is rubbery, and often silvery, stuff that is used for pretty much everything except ducts (because it doesn't last long enough).

I made a pair of slippers (flip flops for you mainlanders) in a company bonding exercise. They actually worked and lasted pretty well. I used to have a picture of them. I will try to find it.
