Something I stopped admiring as a car manufacturer: Land Rover. Overpriced and lacks sense of reality of the American consumer, they stopped producing reliable cars in the early 90s.

These surveys are a little biased. Some company do not introduce any new technology in their cars like the Korean or Japanese cars or even american cars like Ford or Chevrolet. They only change the exterior design, but the engine, transmission are an old and proven technology, already optimized to have less problems over the years. Nissan still use engine, transmission and brakes from 10 to 15 years ago, so for sure they will rank better...I'm curious to see what type of problems are reported etc.

While is true that germans dare to throw the technology out there while the others wait until is perfected, still, 11th place is shameful...
And when comparing with who is above, is more shameful... Really. |

Best description I have ever heard. This has just been launched here in South Africa. A FOUR speed auto box! They are really exploring the limits of technology...... https://www.wheels24.co.za/NewModels...arket-20180619 |

The thing is, issues in the first 90 days are rare...a couple mistakes can sway the results. The more interesting study is the 3 year reliability rankings.

Damn. Shocking results. Honda and toyota are pretty low on the chart while the Korean brands are pretty much beating everybody else based on the results. BMW scores higher than I thought they would.
Well, maybe I shouldn’t be too surprised. Anyone I’ve talked to that owns a modern Hyundai, genesis or Kia loves them with little to no complaints. |

I think the prime reason the Korean vehicles are high in jd powers is because they appear to offer slot of technology and features with a perceived great warranty at reasonable prices in comparison to other vehicles. I refer to it as showroom appeal to certain demographics. It’s like fca products, which i feel have showroom appeal but no long term desirability (exception: ram trucks). As an engineer in the auto industry I see a lot of quality data and survey data. Survey data can easily be biased by the questions in the survey itself. Try purchasing a Korean vehicles and then sell it in two years and see how you like it after you sold it (if you can unload it).

this only proves that BMW owners complain more. that's not much of a surprise. also, customers of the top four barely know that the pointy and goes first, thus skewing the results.

1989 E30: owned 18 years since new... 256,000 miles. My neighbor bought it and took it to 290,000. 1997 Z3 owned 21 years since new... 185,000 miles. Runs perfect. 2008 Z4 3.0si Coupe, bought used in 2014 at 23,000 miles. Now has 85,000 miles. Runs awesome. All cars driven very hard and maintained by me. There's 4 exceptions for the BMW 3-series. |

Also, the 4 series is considered a compact? That's absurd.
