Alcantara Trim Wrap on aluminum dash! Process pics included.

So after some fresh wax I've decided it's time to take on a little project I've been waiting to do. Alcantara trim wrap.

Just lift the shift boot, and pry off the center console carefully from the arm rest. and disconnect the cables before removing it.

The special screws they use is a problem at first, to do the wrap properly I'd need to take off all the control parts.

Just use one of these to remove the screws carefully. It won't require a lot of force. go ahead and take off the parking brake button, sports button and the shift boot base.

This part is clip on, just pull it off.

Clean up the surface really good.

Material doesn't look too bad.

Cut a piece to fully cover the trim piece

Don't bother ironing it, I was trying to iron out the wrinkles but the fabric burns as soon as I start to iron it. Just stretch it while glueing it on.

I used the 3M 77 Spray Adhesive

spray the fabric and place the trim piece face down to bond instantly. do it while the spray adhesive is tacky. quickly trim off excessive fabric and leave about a quarter inch to wrap around the edges.

Carefully push all the pieces back into space. the front heated seat buttons won't fit with the fabric wrapped around the edge since the cut out was so tightly fit. so I had to trim the fabric right to the edge, no wrap around for this part, but it looks very good.

Nice dark soft Alcatara at night, feels so much better than the cold scraped up aluminium piece.

Looks good during the day too, nice and clean. goes well with the red, very dark and it is a nice contrasting material to the harder leathers and silver trims.

I still need to finish the rest of the trim, and time to save up on that M front and new rims! my VMR710s are all bent.

check out my garage for a full mod list. I have just moved to Vancouver, enjoying the weather open up! Let me know what you think!

Nice, I like it. Agreed on the cold plastic as well. Might consider this. Also, where did you buy the //M shift knob?

I'm really not a fan of Alcantara, especially on wear items like the steering wheel and shift knob. However, you sir have knocked this out of the park - looks fantastic. Very well done.

I was just searching this forum for a few days, if there were any matt black carbon fiber trim that I could swith with. I still didn't find any, althouh seeing this gives me the courage to pry mine off and wrap it with the 3M carbon fibre. I am not too big a fan of the silver crabon fibre look that I currently have on my 35is. I have the same color combo white with red interior. How hard was this to do and what are the chances (if any) of me screwing up. I have an auto.

i was envious of the 35is when i got my car. silver carbon trim and everything. but i didnt like my aluminium piece from the beginning, hence why i always wanted to wrap it in carbon vinyl or alcantara.

theres not any real danger of damaging the clips. just use a plastic trim tool to not scratch anything. the whole process wont take a lot of force. the clips that the cables connect to can be stubborn, so just give that a little time.

in other words. no real danger of screwing up, just use some caution.

if you plan to use spray adhesive id recomment not spraying on the back of the trim piece. there was a little bit of sticky overspray when i finished. didn't like that.

Looks great, like to see a pic of the interior when you complete the rest of the trim.
