New Shift Knob

Hey guys I have a 2011 Z4 6MT and would like to get rid of the "goose-neck" shift knob. I've done a lot of searching and can't really find too much in terms of new shift knobs that would fit.

Any suggestions / anyone like their upgraded one?

Thanks!

The M sport leather one for Z4 is pretty nice. It's a bit heavier than stock too. have you seen?

I agree, I have upgraded to that as well. In my opinion though, TWM Performance make alike a 600g shift know and it truly shifts amazing.

Been looking myself with not much to fine. Had a Whalen on my MINI that was 18oz. It was great to shift with. I think the MTech one is 240g or about 8 oz. Apparently our shift knob and boot are a single entity, meaning no one makes a reasonable aftermarket for it. Would love to know if TWM make the 600 for our E89's and a boot to spare.

I really like the M1 Abrams. Not sure if it will fit though...

tell us the process of removing the knob. Is it just a tight fit that requires pulling straight up until it comes off?

yes. lift the boot first. top open, sit in the middle. firm grip and pull straight up into chest (not face). should come off without much fuss.

Well those are pretty ugly - good thing they were in a Miata. How about a photo of the M Sport Leather one you upgraded to in your Z?

Herr K, I don't have my car out of storage yet, but here's a web photo of what it looks like.

Thanks for the pic JP! I should have searched the web more, but I figured one of the proud owners would post a photo.

Looks nice may have to do that upgrade this summer.

This is true.

I've been looking to replace my leather M knob with a ZHP-style knob since buying the car new - still haven't found one that will work yet.

I've considered buying an extra E89 knob+boot and doing some surgery to the leather to make a ZHP knob work, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Bumping this thread as I want to put a zhp shifter on my 11’ Z4. I know it’s been done but can’t find any info on what modifications need to be done.
