Leather Problems

One month after having purchased my 2013 Z 4 3.5i with leather interior on the drive seat side bolster started to peal. The dealer informed me at that time that it was not covered under warranty but would be repair as a courtesy ,one month after repair the leather is pealing again in the same place
Is this a common problem?

How the heck can this not be a warranty job? And in my case, car is nearly 3 years old and I've not had this issue. Sounds like a manufacturing issue, but I'm no expert.

As noted, sounds like warranty. I'd stick to my guns on that discussion with your dealer, or get to another dealer if you have another close by.

Absolute BS that it's not covered under warranty. No problem here after 3 years.

Bolster area tends to get worn, but it should just be the color getting rubbed off, peeling sounds like it should definitely be covered under warranty.

Time for a call to BMW NA. That shouldn't be happening unless you wear shirts made out of sand paper

Why is the leather pealing? Leather does not just peal. Did you clean your seat with some chemical ? Have you tried to use a conditioner ? Is there visible little crack to the leather near where it is pealing? Etc...

Definitely warranty if its peeling. Even wear at that age is abnormal.

I've had minor wear on the bolster after 3.5 years. Warranty said wear and tear so I touched it up with a product from liquidleather.com . Other than that the leather is almost as good as new.

no peeling/wear problem so far. really shouldn't happen at all.

although The seat bottom does gets some wrinkles from sitting on there too long or things in my pocket. Any one knows any fixes for tightening that leather?

the OCD in me is bothered.

That's what happens when BMW uses cheap leather. The leather on my sofa is much softer/better; in my car, it barely passes as leather (even the upgraded nappa leather is barely passible, I can't stand that BMW doesn't use good-quality leather).

My last car ('08 328) had the vinyl and that stuff was awesome. It was pretty much invincible. Looked brand new after 3 years.

Wife's '11 328 with oyster leather already had wear marks after 6 months.

Black leather on my Z has been ok. I wonder if certain colors are less durable than others?

^I'm not even talking about durability. Even when it was new the leather didn't feel luxurious and soft like you would get in the usual decently-priced sofas, for example.

Yeah, I expected better leather on a 60k car. But what can you do?

Any emblems on clothing or special chemicals going in to your dry cleaning? Someone once mentioned to place their hand on the side bolster before entering to reduce wear from rear pockets scuffing that area. Still, should be covered by warranty and should be fairly robust.

no problems here. curious what did they do to "repair" peeling finish on leather?

Beware of hitchhikers with Jeweled designer jeans.
