Soldered the wires for hall sensor for temp fix

I soldered some new wire to the section I guess the wires may be broken. I got lucky and that cleared the hall sensor fault.

I need to route the new wires now, I did not have enough room to tape them and route them along the harness.

Now trying to figure out which position of the roof will give me best access to the that. Probably where 2nd shell is somewhere between the trunk and the front shell.

Hi guys,

to continue this thread, did anyone try this microswitch https://www.tme.eu/gb/details/1058.5...ion/marquardt/ in series with a 2.7kOhm resistor?

Why should we?

As this switch hardly ever fails, there is no need to experimemt around with alternatives.

New ones from BMW with correct 2 different(!) resistors just cost about 25 €.

Fair question, while trying to fix the broken wire, for some reason the switch got damaged. I already ordered one but it arrives at my location in over 10 working days unfortunately... and I need to use the car and the roof in the meantime

Well, just head over to Munich and your roof will be ok the same day, even already tomorrow.

Broken wires never will "injure" the microswitch. It's only a misleading fault code in the OBD.

And the broken wires are a result of the age of the car, not dependent on luck or bad luck.

This is a great thread for reference. So far no problems with my 2013...I only have 23k miles and it sits in the garage. Do you think the MTBF is related to use or age and storage circumstances ?

I don't think so.
It's a result of aging plastics that lose plasticizers over the years in combination with a too tight bending radius of the wiring harness.

I've already "touched" even 2016 models with broken wires. So it's a question of time, when faults will come up.

Unfortunately it is physically broken, it got separated into 2 pieces... no idea how, i just observed it like that.

Thanks Robi for your help, but unfortunately I am not in Austria at the moment.

In my opinion in an emergency situation, one could use the microswitch from above attach a 2.75kOhm resistor on the blue wire, a 0.55kOhm resistor on the black wire, then solder the remaining 2 ends of the resistors, this node has to be connected to one of the 2 wires from the plug (the one returning to the CV/TM).

Make your own research, this is not an advice, the original part may have some type of protection inside.
