Oil Catch Can Install On 2011 E89 35is

Couple weeks ago decided to install and oil catch can and was looking for possible locations that would be easy to get to and easy to install.

I found this spot that I think is the ideal place to install

On the passenger side right on the firewall there is a threaded bolt with a plastic nut on it.

I used a Mishimoto oil catch can and a mounting bracket I found on amazon. Drilled a whole for a nutsert and used a M6 screw with a washer to mount. Used a silicone sealant with the nutsert just incase.

Here is the finished product. Easy to get to and check oil level in the can.

Learning something new today.

When using Imgur for posting images you can quickly resize and have consistence image size in your post by adding modifiers to the image name.

s = 90× 90 = Small Square
b = 160× 160 = Big Square
t = 160× 160 = Small Thumbnail
m = 320× 320 = Medium Thumbnail
l = 640× 640 = Large Thumbnail
h = 1024×1024 = Huge Thumbnail(as seen in the example above)

for example the original url is imgur.com/PwuP9j5.jpeg to resize make it imgur.com/PwuP9j5h.jpeg

Very clean install but high side catch cans are hardly worth it. The flapper is open only under boost and you spend 95% of your time driving under vacuum. Better to install a low side can which can be mounted to the left strut bar.

This is exactly where I put mine. Unfortunately I only get a few drops a year (and I "drive" my car).

Do you have a low or high side can?

It's just a high side - I can attest to needing a low side - just too lazy (actually just tired of fighting X3 problems as I type with greasy finders...)

Just wondering how easy is it to cut through that padding insulation and what's inside of it. After inspecting my car, it feels like the firewall padding has micro particles in it like sand. Is it going to spill everywhere if I drill/cut through it?

When you installed your catch can, does your engine make a squealing sound when it turns off? My car is making this sound.

here's a video
