installation complete

Quick Review:

I read the instructions three times to make sure I understood them. I updated the firmware on my old PC and made our selections - double checked. Then installation - it was easy and took 1 hour. I made absolutely sure I followed the instructions by the letter and double checked each step. Now I am done and it is awesome. Thanks for a great product Tom and EAS.

The top operation is great, the mirrors fold in and out automatically, the all windows up button works with just a touch, and the top works on the move - amazing; boy are we spoiled to need these features but they are fun.

Let's face it, the Z4 is a toy - why not have a little more sparkle for the eye candy?

SmartTOP Prevents traffic jam!!

Driving home from work today, there were some overcast clouds but the temp was so nice I decided to roll the dice and drive home with the top down. About halfway home, I felt the rain start to fall. As I began to slow down (10-15 MPH) in traffic, I hit the "close" button and never had to stop....Don't know what the reaction to my top closing was to those behind me because I couldn't see them, but I was thankful for the SmartTop for keeping me dry and avoiding having to cause a delay in the rush hour traffic. .

Probably one of the most-used features of the module.

Hi all,

First, I want to apologize for my English... French speakers are not good for foreign languages. :-)

I'm new here, I'm from Switzerland and I just bought the smarttop from mods4cars for my Z4 e89 35i.
I know the post is old, but maybe someone, like me, will come here to find info.

So I just received my smarttop from the USA in about 3-4 open days. And everything is perfect.

With the new one, no specific connection is needed as it's just using the original plug (no cable cute or unplugged). Exactly as describe on the installation guide you can find on the mods4cars website.
And you can configure your smarttop via a USB connection from your computer (very easy).

Installation done in about 10min, and working fine directly. I'm VERY happy with it. As it's winter now, I just made a quick test. I will see this summer if it's still ok with a regular use (but if it works one time, it should works every time).

I was a little skeptical about the folding mirrors operation. But it works!!!

Bellow is the picture of what I received. And no tools is needed for the installation.

I hope this post will help those who would like to buy one.

C U.

Thanks for the update...

An old thread, yes, but I'm still interested in this product and enjoy reading reviews/opinions.

One question (to anyone)...
Is the USB update feature Mac compatible? (or does it only work with Windows-based pc's)

Thanks,

Hello,

I'm not sure but it seems that the software for the USB is only available for windows.

But as you just have ton configure it ones. You can borrow a windows laptop or juste bring the module to a friend having a windows computer.

Computer is not required for module programming - this can also be done via the Blinker stalk once installed.

And the installation? Can it be done on your own or should I visit a shop?

SmartTop units are now Plug and Play, it's a very simple install.

I'm considering a SmartTop too for these 3 main reasons:

-Roof operation with one push from the inside or by holding the remote button for 4-seconds. When opening/closing the roof, especially with the remote, at times I am not sure when the operation is complete or not. There was an instance in which I was closing the roof via remote and while holding it, I turned and the remote was slightly out of the line of sight of the car and the operation just completely stopped.

-Open/close roof while the car is in motion.

-Folding mirrors when I lock the doors.

Other than that, my CA option pretty much covers the other operations like all doors unlocking or the CA trunk access.

I just ordered a SmartTop mainly for three reasons:

- the ability to just press the roof buttons to open or close the top; those 20 seconds that you have to hold the button to do that otherwise feels like an eternity.

-the ability to lower close your windows using the remote; I installed similar sorts of modules in my two previous car because it's such a convenient feature those times when someone forgets to raise their window or you just want to walk up to your car and reach in to grab something. Couldn't you just check if the windows are closed before leaving the car? Yea, but sometimes I don't, and I also don't want to wait for the windows to raise before leave. This was a bigger issue with my last car (Acura TL) because closing the four windows and sunroof would take a few seconds.

-The ability to operate the top while in motion. With the SmartTop, I'll be able to pull out of my driveway as soon as I get in the car and have the top stow away while I drive down my street (where I'm not usually driving very fast anyways).

We are the US distributor for Mods4Cars, all BMW development and orders ship from our location in Anaheim, CA.

We typically do not participate in Group Buys, but I can offer a coupon code if we can get a number of people interested in purchasing.

I'd be up for that depending on the discount of the coupon code.
