Remote Control-key fob Charging (E89 model)

Does anybody know if you leave the remote plugged into socket in car if it charges the rechargeable remotes or only when car is on? I can plug the fob in to the car and push it again,at that point the car is not in accessry mode but the fob is still in the pocket-that's when I am wondering if it is charging. I have read it takes 30 hours to fully charge the battery so it would be nice to just leave it in there when not driving for a couple of days

My spare key is used about once a year in car and always holds a charge, opens car, etc.
