When change back to summer tires?
Just curious when you are changing them back, esp those in the Ontario/Toronto areas. What torque setting do you have for the nuts? Are there any other things I need to tell the shop when changing the tires (since I'm not going to a BMW dealer to have them done)? Thx.

Once the temperature is consistently over 50F/10C during the day and doesn't drop below 40F/4C in the evening, it's time to change. Snow tires wear out quickly above 60F/15C.

1) Torque BMW has upped wheel torque specs for all BMWs (except X5s) to 87 lb ft., +/- 7. (I change my own wheels and use a torque wrench, then have the torque values verified by my BMW dealership). 2) I wait for early April when no more snow is in the forecast. If you are changing wheels i.e. you have a winter wheel/tire set then yes you can do it yourself or have any tire shop change your wheels out. However, I caution anyone that changes winter tires to sumer tires using the same wheels to have this work done only at BMW.Others may damage your wheels during the tire change out. Remember there are tire machines and then there are tire machines. The one you want is the one that does not damage your expensive wheel. If you been to any major auto show you may have seen the tire-machine in action the one that only touches your tire sidewall not making any contact with your wheel during the change out. So be on guard on that one. Cheers, Rolf-Dieter PS. Example photos are in my web site showing results when the wrong wheel/tire machine is used.

I usually wait until late April. I've dug my car out of deep snow enough times in mid-April, in one case after temperatures had already hit 80+F/27C, that I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of tire rubber.
