Google maps "send to car" can send routes!

I noticed that Google Maps "send to car" was only for destinations, but now I can create a route from Google maps on my Android phone and send it to my car. I didn't see this feature before, in fact I had searched for it and even found topics saying that's not possible.

Is this a new feature Google added recently? I still don't see this option on the desktop, I can see it only on Google maps on my phone. I haven't tried the iPhone, but I assume it will be there since Google Maps is generally identical on the iPhone and Android.

Can anyone with an iPhone confirm?

Woohoo - we can use this feature for group drives and stuff.

Hmm its a little weird Google would support this only on phones, and not on desktops.

How to here.
Best idrive/maps feature ever... Great for trips - we send a bunch of points of interest to the car for the area we will be going to.

I had to register at BMW, provide my gmail... easy set up in google maps and bingo:
Any location can be "Send to car"

You are talking about sending a destination. I am talking about sending a specific route to the car. That used to be not available, it is available on my Android phone now. I still don't see that feature on the desktop. Not sure about iPhone.

I wish I could read my emails on the iDrive screen. Or texts. No joy.

Apparently its available only now. I couldn't find this feature earlier (again - talking about sending routes, not sending destinations).

you might be able to. its newly added by Google, not newly added by Bmw.

if you have bmw assist and your car supports it, I think you can use this feature. not sure which year bmw introduced this send to car feature. I was merely pointing out that it supports routes too now, instead of just destinations.

I used to get my texts in my F30 328i, but I don't get them in my M235i. Not sure why. I've never be able to read e mail. I use an Andriod btw.

Everything else in iDrive works the same way except the Nav, which is miles better than the version in my old car.

I find the Nav displays on my i8 and M4 to be very cluttered. The colors (lots of red!) seem to drown out all of the information and make the route I've chosen hard to find.

Same phone, same version of OS? What else changed other than the car?

I felt that way too, then I once filtered what I want to see on the map its much better. (Removing traffic update, for instance). I made my map almost minimalistic and 2D with a 0.25 mile view facing in the travel direction, I find that's the most usable and intuitive map for me. If I want to "look ahead" to decide what lane I want to turn into, I just zoom in/out with the wheel and that's it. Even that, I rarely ever need to do because .25 mile perspective is just perfect.
