Child car seat - questions

Hi,

I tried searching on this forum, but did not find anything on child cars seats.
Has anyone tried to put/use a child car seat in his Z4?
I've got few questions for those who tried/are using a car seat or who know anything concrete on that topic.
1. How to do you deactivate the passenger airbag? (the manual says, it will deactivate automatically if the sensor judge the need for that..) any idea why mine is not?

2. Can you lock the Z4 passenger seat belt (again the Manual says, put the seat belt, pull it out to it's maximum and release, it will lock... But this is yet not happening on my Z4. Any idea why not?

3. The ultimate question... Can I put a child car seat in my Z4 (we have a family car, but I still need to take my child on my Z4...)

Thanks in advance for any info!

The seat alone is probably not heavy enough. Add a toddler.

No. Roadsters are "an expression of freedom" whereas a child is a life sentence The M seats have ISOFIX connection points (I'd imagine the standard seats have them too), so obviously BMW thinks you can, and I don't disagree with them.

I would not put a dog in the front seat of a roadster let alone a child. Get a Porsche then you can put your baby in the back or a four seater.

I understand the 'expression of freedom' but sometimes, just sometimes... You've got to do what you've got to do...
I have the sport seats. Emm.. I was told I should specify that I need ISOFIX on them otherwise they will come without them...
Are you saying all M seats are ISOFIX built?
I will check this later today. Tks!

My M3 Love it, next week this time I'll be on a road trip.

My Z4 was super fun mind you it is a wonderful car, something at BMW needs to change to get rid of the RFT and perhaps scrap the 296 wheel design or make it stronger.

1. Mine is deactivated by default. Only when someone sit in the passenger side will the airbag activate. Maybe reposition the child seat will help.
2. The seatbelt lock. I will try that next time and report back.

Thanks hpDellNestle...
I guess I found how to automatically deactivate the air bag...
Put the passenger seat at its lowest position possible. Pull back the seat to the max. Put the child car seat, put the seat belt and turn on the car. The air bag was deactivated..

I still can't figure though how to lock the sea belt. I do not have an ISOFIX on my M seats.

Hmmmm what was I thinking. Yes, weight should of course activate it instead of deactivating it.

As for the ISOFIX thing, I assumed it always comes with the M seats as I've never had to tick a box to get it (had it in my E85 too).

Airbag

I guess this is different from country to country.

My car have a switch on the side of the dashboard on the passenger side. Can activate/deactivate the airbag with the key.

Also have sportschairs and they have isofix.

Found nothing about the seatbelts in my manual.

Kids love Z4's!

This seems the case...
Now that I thought I found the way of turning off that damn passenger airbag, I did not...
I am taking the car to dealer so they'd show me how this is done... Jeeez...

I believe the airbag is always deactivated until someone sits on the seat and senses the weight.
I think they do it that way because with only the driver inside the car, it is not reason for the passenger airbags to open in case of an accident. Better to ask an expert thought.
Good luck !!!

Thanks Soki...
If the airbag is always deactivated when no one is sitting on the passenger seat. I should have the airbag light on (when not deactivated.) but this is not the case with me.
My thinking is completely the opposite... The airbag is always activated, if you sit on the seat, the sensor will judge if less than X Kgs/lbs it will deactivate the airbag, if more than that X Kgs/lbs the airbag stays on...

Ask the dealer... Emm... They told me to start with, I cannot put a child seat in front, better to put it in the back!!! Maybe they meant in the trunk??? (Got my meaning???)

No problem, my pleasure.
If the dealer told you that it does not fit in the front seat then I suppose they know better than us. I am sorry about that thought.
Anyway, I hope you will find another way. Probably buy a second car (smaller than the z4) so you can your family trips !!! It's up to you really. Good luck..

Try this and see this happens to me all the time when I place my phone or water bottle on the passenger seat .. while driving the seat belt warning light up and make that bell sound on the dashboard... so I assumed it checks the weight of what ever on the pasender seat ..
