Upgraded stereo settings

I was hoping some of the members here would be kind enough to post their settings for the upgraded/premium stereo settings.

This would be a big help to everyone here and allow us to enjoy our cars further...feel free to post the settings or even a screen shot of your settings

Thank you!

I was hoping there were some audiophiles on this forum as well that may be able to help out with the EQ settings to perfect the sound. I'm currently using the E92 settings from the below thread over on e90post. Sounds ok to me, but I'm sure it could be tweaked.

The logic 7 system that was present in the e9x 3-series was one of the best stock BMW audio systems to date. After LCI, it all went down hill. The "upgraded" audio sound in the z4 is a fine but below adequate and I'm being charitable with that description.

None the less I'll post the eq settings that I thought made the best of it...

I actually work in the music industry and I find the premium sound system in my 2010 Z4 utterly atrocious! I've tried nearly every setting combination (eq, surround vs. non-surround setting, etc.) and it still sounds horrible. It's pretty much the only thing I don't like about the car but as I live in Los Angeles and would like to take advantage of my commute time to do some listening, I was hoping some kind soul out there could let us know if they've done any aftermarket upgrades to their system to get it to sound decent.

Thanks!

Subscribed as I want to know the optimum settings as well. There is definitely enough power but our sys does need a lot of tweaking.

Coming from an e92 m3 with enhanced sound and an 06 e90 330xi with logic7 I can def say that the z4 is in between them in terms of quality...I've tried some setting from the e92 m and non m but haven't had much luck

Here is the best setup, I've ever been able to achieve:
(CD or iDrive HD music on)
Treble: Max
Bass: +3
Fader: -2
Surround: checked ON
Equalizer:
100HZ: Max
200HZ: +4
500HZ: -3
1KHZ: +1
2KHZ: -1
5KHZ: +5
10 KHZ: Max

Let me know what you think guys and if you have a better setup. Tks!

I have the Premium Sound option, but I don't believe I've ever seen an equalizer. Is it in the iDrive somewhere?

Yes. Look under Tone (settings) which is under CD/Multiple-media...

Man, if I set the bass like that, I get nothing but loud rattles. Has anyone tried replacing the speakers, sub &/or amplifiers? I'd love some ideas...

Do you have the premium sound? I've got the standard one, and nope the sound is just fine and the bass is neat (not loud rattles)
What setup you've got?

Professional Loudspeakers

I'm also subscribing to this thread so I get the updates.

I too have the top speaker package in my E89 (called "Loudspeaker System - BMW Professional" in UK) and although it's got plenty of power, it lacks detail across the range & the bass sounds flabby to me. (I have all my tone / EQ bars set midway.)

I guess it must be difficult to get a perfect sound system in a small space with lots of hard surfaces, not to mention accomodate the roof going down; however for me, the sound quality vs additional cost its a little disappointing. I've spent less in the past on after market upgrades with much better results.

If I can learn from others & improve the sound - great!

I should probably add that I absolutely love my E89 & the sound of that 35i engine sounds PERFECT!

Did not have the Professional Audio Package. I think mine is the standard Premium version. Sounded terrible. Swapped the "paper-cone" OEM speakers for a Focal 165 KR 3-way series. Added a 50watt 2-channel Genesis amp. Sounded alot better.

Can you plz guide us to how you did that? ie. like in a step by step what you did? and did you need for a Cleansweaper to add the Amp??

Thanks!

Yes, I do have the premium sound. I've tried every possible combination of settings and it still sounds like absolute crap. Unfortunately, I can't send you my current settings as my car is in the shop for a fuel pump replacement (not the HPFP, which I had replaced last year). OT--Anyone out there have BOTH fuel pumps go out on them?

Anyway, back to the stereo---has anyone installed any aftermarket components? If so, would love to hear what works. Thanks, all.

I did all the upgrades with the ICE installer. The amp is mounted behind the passenger seat and it is not obstructive. Of course you can have it in the car boot but it will take up space. The std car stereo HU (with the CD slot) comes with an internal amp (at most 10-15 watts). So instead of using the HU to drive the speakers, get the additional 2-channel amp to drive it. There are 3 set of speakers that you need to change. Tweeters near the window, mids in the side door and the mid bass at the foot well. U can either configure 2-way or 3-way depending on your amp. Get an installer to recommend your preferred set up.

Sorry for being dense, but what is that?
Would something like the Focal KRX3 3 piece components fit?
Thanks!!
