Thunk from rear left (sometimes), roof rattles, rattles from idrive mechanism. No HPFP or serious issues like that thankfully.

I wish it was built like my F10's, 3x mileage and still feels new.

I have squeaky mirrors when unfolding and the miscellaneous rattles.

I took it into my local dealer and they couldn't find any issue with it. They mentioned they lubricated the roof hoping that might fix the issue. I guess because it's general rattles, it makes it somewhat difficult to pinpoint the source.

When i tried reproducing the mirror noise to the dealer, of course it wouldn't make the noise. Now I've found the squeak only happens after it's sat for awhile.

I drive a 2010 23i with about 9k miles.

I'll be booking it in again to hopefully get these sorted.

My 2011 with 18k miles has been to the dealer no less than 5 times.

Rear brakes needed to be replaced at 17k miles. I have no way of knowing whether this is normal or not (never owned a BMW before) for a BMW.

I have a rattling noise upon start up from the right rear exhaust baffle. Does anyone else have this? My BMW dealership ordered an entire new right rear exhaust (allegedly) and put it on. Same noise. Head technician at the dealership has now resigned himself to the belief that "that's normal".

I would really like to know if anyone else has this and if it really is "normal". It sounds like gravel being shaken in a tin can for about 5-7 seconds every time I start up the car. I just have a hard time imagining that with all the engineering that clearly went into this car, the engineers heard that sound and said "eh, good enough".

I'm not digging my heals in for an argument, but I understand our dancing windows and I don't define it as a Problem. Many/most cars power windows open and close with a dedicated button. Down....Up....Simple. We have dedicated buttons and additionally have another button for ALL Down....ALL Up. ADDITIONALLY, we have a power roof which becomes a third source of control....ALL Down that are not already down or part way down.....followed by us using some combination of the individual buttons or the ALL Up button. I unpredictably would dance up and down too if I had all those variables of multiple excitation.
We have a window problem when they won't go up or down to the limit we command, not when they are realigning/resetting/rebooting/reinitializing to one of the Up command sources.

brakes at 17k...very early replacement. I had the rattle in my 2011 Z4 exhaust, just the same as you. somehow it is not there in my 2012.

Ok good news. They have not had to replace the entire exhaust. The worked on the drivers side rear pipe, there's a flap in there that was rattling, and they manage to access it and fix it. Been driving the car for the last hour and it's as quiet as anything

For those ones with rattles: essentially they come from the roof.
I fixed them with a bit of grease along all the roof seals. It works great!
I remember that the other E89 i drove (the BMW test car) had rattles coming from the central air ducts, navi sector.
Mine haven't.
For what concern serious problems: nothing at all (12.000 km).
