Arrow BMW Museum Exhibit on Glas Scooters and Cars (Former Unit of BMW Group)

Glas: from the scooter to the car...

The BMW Museum had a special exhibit last month. They had many Glas scooters and cars from the 1950's and 1960's. Many people do not know that Glas was part of the BMW Group. The Glas factory was closed in 1969 and made over. In 1973 the former Glas factory now produced 5 series in Dingolfing. The rest as we say, is history.

Enjoy my photos.

Edit: Meant to say nice pics too! Man I'm only a little jealous of the amount of time you spend at the Welt taking pictures!

Great images Dak. I really dig that sidecar rig. Some of these are more mini than a Mini.

Thanks for that museum link. Looks really nice. I put it on my List of American museum places to see.

The US collectors are pushing the prices up and up on these small micro cars. Some of those Messerschmitt's are getting $30K!!

The white car in the foreground is a BMW made Glas 1600GT is it not? the Saloon in the background is a Glas made & badged 1700?

I might be wrong.. but the only 4 door BMW badged Glas' 4 doors were the 1800SA and 2000SA, the 4 door above is the original Glas version that was only 1.7, as opposed to the BMW powered 1.8 or 2.0.

I might be wrong, GLAS is one part of BMW's history that I've struggled to research.

I normally shoot the car specs/date sheet right after shooting the car(s). The red car next to it had this plague. Maybe I shot them out of order. I could have. ?

I'm no expert on these Glas cars either. lol But I do like them. And to think the very same factory now produces the M5!

Oh yeah totally.. the Glas vehicles that BMW produced might not seem that important now, but the acquisition of Glas by BMW played a big part in making BMW that company it is today...

If those plaques are right, then the white one is definatley a BMW 1600GT, and the saloon is definatley a Glas 1700.
