Can't drive my roadster today. Argh.
We had about a foot of snow overnight and it's still pelting down at several inches per hour.
The plow guy didn't come until after I was at work. The snow in the driveway was deeper than the doors in the Z4 and the berm of snow at the end of the driveway from the town plow was higher than the bonnet. This is one of those circumstances under which snow tires make no real difference. I ended up swiping my wife's X3. Bursting through the plow berm and sending snow flying everywhere made it seem as if I were in a breath mint commercial. |

I can't even drive the SUV here. 18" overnight on top of the 13" already on the ground. The street hasn't even been plowed yet, let alone my driveway.
My German Shepherd can't even make it out of the driveway, and he's got 4-leg drive! It'll be a while before the Z4 gets to ride.

I dread the day that I'm rendered car-less since the Z4 is my only car. So far the fair Toronto weather has been kind and we have appeased the snow gods (knock on wood).

I think you southerners in CT may have had a bit more than we're likely to get. I doubt we'll get more than a couple of feet, and the roads were clear until last night.
One thing about the boonies here in New Hampshire is that the roads are practically always plowed no matter how hard it's snowing. Driveways? Now, that's a different matter. In the 7 years that my e85 Z4 was my daily driver, I think I used my wife's X3 maybe a dozen times when the snow was just too deep for the minuscule road clearance of the roadster. Not making it to the hospital simply isn't an option for me, and the X3 has always made it through. When we had a 2 1/2 week power outage due to an ice storm I detoured around the power lines across the hospital's entry drive by going through the woods. When I got to the parking lot, I saw all sorts of cars already there including some that didn't look as if they should have made it even in perfect weather. That turns out to have been the only time in the 15 years I've been here that they closed the hospital for a day (to new patients or outpatient visits) because they feared the wires could go live if the power came back on. |

We don't usually get that much snow out west in Calgary (12" - 18" is a lot !!) but at least you guys have plows that operate, ours just do the main roads and bus routes. WE bitch and complain and it's improved a little....and this IS Canada, eh.
I can't get past the end of the driveway and the 250 yds on the side street to the main road.....Until late March !!! so don't whine about about a couple of days, eh?

Take it for a spin over to the coast, in the rain. Find out how well the DSC works...
I plan on retiring to Vancouver Island so I can drive my cars all year, in the rain too. But you have to respect a man who won't get the car dirty Way more will power than I have.

Oh I'll drive the hell out of it come spring and summer but winter is what the other car is meant for. However I did drive with the top down when it was 35F and sunny 2 weeks ago...was glorious while it lasted. Already planning road trips to the coast and vancouver... When is that groundhog supposed to make an appearance??

How many times have you polished it ?
I think I waxed mine every other day for the first week

Well no waxing yet but I did have a detailer wash it the day after I brought it home since I had to drive it some 150 miles back from the dealership down in Oregon. Since that wash ( the two times that it's been out) I use a new duster and some Meguiar's Ult. before covering it with it's indoor cover. Anyone else have the Z4 indoor cover? It's more like a custom fit warm fuzzy blanket than your traditional cover.
Speaking of washing I did notice on that 1st wash that there was some condensation in the headlights after wards. I seem to remember this coming up long ago and will do a search but any current consensus on this? |

Nah. I'd do way more damage to the car applying and removing the cover every day that it could possibly suffer from being uncovered in the barn. Every once in a while I find wildlife (skunk, mostly) footprints on the car, but it's never damaged the finish.

Skunks have huge nails.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/25048733@N03/2966068099/
This cover is lined with something akin to microfiber on the inside and a satin/polyester finish on the outside. It's so soft that it's a bit tricky getting it on because it sort of glides off the car if you don't have the mirror pockets in place. Take a look, it's much darker, closer to black, than the pic. http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...productId=2506 |
