Will 18" Wheels Fit?

It's time to ditch the 296's and RFT's for obvious reasons. I now have a 3rd cracked wheel leaking air. So to avoid this issue in the future and to obtain a more comfortable driving experience I would like to mount after market 18" wheels and non-RFT's. The online wheel/car configurators I have come across don't show 18" wheels for my car which has the "sport package" adaptive M suspension. Have any forum members fit 18" wheels on their E89 with this suspension? And would 17" wheels fit with this suspension?
Thanks.

BTW, here's one with 6 cracks and no leaks! Keeping it as a conversation piece and for evidence.

I have 18" wheels with the M Sport package. Stock wheels are 325M.

This is what we have on our 2009 35i ordered from Pyspeed.

VMR BMW V710 18 inch Wheel Set
Wheel Finish:Hyper Silver
Size:18x8.5
ET:35mm
Size:18x9.5
ET:45mm
Tire Package Mounted Balanced:Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
TPMS:BMW (2007 - 2009)
Tire size 225/40/18 and 255/35/18

They fit fine.

The only thing I have noticed is that if you lay the wheel on its side, with this tire width, the face of the wheel (spokes) just touch the ground and can chip. I had one fall over and it put a couple of chips in it. Now that I know this, I am more careful handling and always lay them down with a board under one side. The couple of chips are small and not that noticeable.

I do not take them off nearly so much (in fact never) since I am not concerned with cracks anymore.

Would sure like to see pictures of your wheel/tire combo. We're considering some new wheels as well. Thanks

Yes 17" will fit if you get the right offset wheels. But why would you want to? 17" will look like bottle tops!?!

e.g.

To put more rubber between the road and wheel with a higher profile tire, but I suppose 18" will suffice.

Thanks.

I would likely have gone with the 17s had they been available. More rubber has got to be better. It is hard for some people to understand that have not had to deal with cracked wheel issues.

However, the 18s seem to be working out well. Photos attached.

IMHO 18's are an acceptable compromise of wheel safety and looks. 17's just look too small like a family sedan. 19's look great but yes you're in for some stress on poor roads.

As for not understanding, I had 3 296's go. I bought 313's and hope these are a bit better.

Gorgeous car! Thanks for posting the photos. I'm checking all options as thoroughly as possible.

I settled for an 18" set of Focal 421 X matte black. Not everyone's favorite color but I think they'll look good on my blue Z and the brake dust won't be so apparent. A tempting idea is to also replace the silver grill and grey front vents with black components.

That blue Z looks great. I love it.

I am heavily thinking of going with with these VMR wheels.
How are the quality of the these wheels to date?
And peeling, chips etc?
How is the off set working out?
Any general feedback is appreciated.

Thanx.

However, the 18s seem to be working out well. Photos attached.

Check out this thread from the M3 board. Several members are saying they are weaker than other cast wheels like OEM or BBS and the damage is a case of "you get what you pay for"

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=376748

But it seems like a lot of our E89 members are using the wheel without any issues.

I for one loved my 18s:

I should really get around to listing them FS… I kept them since i thought I may get another Z4… but nope, that's no longer going to happen (ended up getting a SL550. Almost got the SL63 but it wasn't worth the premium since AMGs have shitty lease deals…)

How much do you want for them? And where are you located?
