I understand that the panel is part of the chassis skeleton, however, by looking at the diagram on the URL, The panel appear to be attached to the frame using bolts? is that correct? Does the panel has to be cut to be removed?
Per the url you can deduct that the old panel will be cut off where necessary, and debonded in other interfaces.

Description
Performed using adhesive bonding/
riveting repair method.

Mr...z4z4z4, thx a bunch, i just missed that . Anyway, I went to the dealer this morning and get the estimate of $2600 for the new quarter panel, tail light including labors. yep,,,it is all the rivets and adhesive for panel no welding. He said that they have to paint my door including part of the rear and that is a lot of paint area considered the size of the damage.

So true, just got out to check on the car and man that sight is depressing. You are right though, at the end of the day it is a car and repairable and I am just glad there isn't any personal injury.

I'll consider that trade in once the new Cayman comes out later this year. I'll take a big hit having them absorb 2 more years of lease though. But it isn't something I am scratching off from the possibilities. I might fall in love with it at the LA AutoShow this year so we'll see.
How was the new Cayman at the LA AutoShow?

+1 I was talking to the German concierge guy in the backroom at the LA Auto show and he was telling me some details on the Cayman. I got to sit in the 911S and the Boxster S but I think I like the Cayman the best. With that said, I am hard pressed to wait until I see and try out the new M4 before jumping ship to Porsche...or maybe even a GTR in the future.

If you could wait, the M4 is definitely worth the wait, thee 2014 Cayman will probably take a few more months before hitting the dealerships.

As for the GTR, it really isnt even fair to compare but the Cayman does cost about half though. Id also wait out til the new GTR comes out, a 2015 redesign is in the horizon iirc.

I wished BMW brings back the E46-like driving experience. The E46 is by far the best driving experience I've personally had.
