Climate Control on when starting car

I have a 2011 30i and it seems odd to me that whenever I start the vehicle (I have the comfort access option) the climate control is on. It defaults to the auto fan setting, but no matter how I set it when turning the vehicle off, it still starts when I start the car, 2 out of every roughly 3 vehicle starts. Could this really be normal operation? Anyone have the same issue? Or any input as to how to have the CC off by default when starting the car?

Came back from dealer and they say that there is no programming any longer on the 2009 and up Z4s to make the climate control not come on when the car is started. But I have to ask, why does it only come on 2 out of every 3 times I start the car. One would think if it isn't a defect, then it would not be intermittent.

It probably depends on how long you were away from the car. For example, I will have the seat warmers on and if I hop out the car for a bit to run a quick errand and come back, the seat warmers will still be on when I turn the car on.

However, if I leave the car for a long time, the seat warmers won't come on.

Can't remember if that works for the Sports and Sports+ functionality as well...

It always turn back on at lowest fan speed for me. However, if I turn the car back on before the car does it's complete shutdown thingy (make that funny noise in the dashboard maybe 5 mins after turning off ignition) the fan won't be on automatically.

I know that sometimes I turn the fan completely off, and it still comes on the next time I start the vehicle, which is odd. What I'm going to do for the next week is keep a log of how I leave the climate control when I shut down the vehicle, the time I turn it off and the time I start the vehicle again and wether or not the CC is on or off when I start it. Maybe I ill begin to see a pattern.. Will update in a week.

Same for my '11 30i, no CA. Tried numerous combinations of "lock the car", "don't lock the car", etc., etc. Dealer says that's the way it's programmed. Being a control nut it drives me crazy. If I turn it OFF I expect it to remain OFF. Who's in control of the car - me or the friggin computer? However, I've learned to live with it. I've been reprogrammed to start up, turn the CC off, grumble, and press on.

Yeah. In all honestly, it really is unacceptable that for a car costing in upwards of $55k to have to put up with such nonsense. Especially when BMW says it's "the way the car is" and yet the issue seems to be intermittent. I'm going to try to escalate this issue higher on the food chain through a regional BMW rep and see what I can get done..

I noticed he same thing. I turn off and later when I restart fan comes on at lowest setting (every time). Wouldn't bother me except I've been doing nothing but top down driving and don't want it to be on. Can't believe there's no option to turn that off with i-drive. My 3-series didn't do this.

This bugs me too. Half the time I remember to toggle the fan back off, the rest of the time I usually notice partway through my drive.

wow thats really weird.

I would expect it to keep whatever setting it was left at when you last shut the car off.

Dumb question, but do you always use the same key? If you use the other key it will use that key's last known setting.

I have the same issue here... Did some testing and I am not sure if I got the answer. The climate control switch on whenever you start your car and the outside temperature is above 26 degree Celsius...
I've had few times started the car and the Climate Control was off, the outlaw temperature was 22 C...
I am not able to test this theory further, as the temperatures here nowadays are well above the 27C day/Night...

Anyone??
