Converting to US$ at today's rate, 112 euros is about $175. Surely shipping of 10 sets would not run much more than $50 per set. This would make each set run about $225. Does this sound reasonable?
Does me...

Hi all,

I thought I should post a copy of the PM I sent to René yesterday to follow-up on my comments that I would contact him about this proposed group buy. I haven't heard back yet.

_____
Hi René,

I have been following and contributing to the thread regarding your luggage set for the Z4/E89. I would be happy to work with you on seeing if we can organize a group buy of these items.

I wonder if you could answer a few questions.

- How is the luggage set packaged? Is it one box per set or multiple boxes per set? Is the packaging of sufficient strength to permit ground shipping? What are the dimensions and weights of the packaging per set? (This information will be helpful in calculating the domestic ground shipping once a container arrives in the US.)

- For estimation purposes, what would be the shipping costs if we ordered 10 sets?

- For logistics reasons, would there be a significant decrease in the shipping costs if we ordered a target number of sets thanks to the space use inside a container?

I look forward to hearing from you. Please let me know if you have any questions for me at this point.

Thanks,
Danny

Yes, count me in for sure. The idea was floated above by two people willing to handle this that we first pay into their Paypal account so they will not have to front the money. I agree and I am ready . . . please, one of you two set this up with some discussion on this page of details. I will also gladly pay the additional UPS cost to ge the luggage to Texas.

Hey Danny,
Hey Z4post members,

I will try to answer all your quetions in the following part:

1. How is the luggage set packaged?

The complete luggage set is packed in one big stable carton. The two suitcases are additional packed in soft bags, to prevent scratches and to store your Roadsterbags.

Weight of one parcel: 13,5 KG

2. The shipping costs

The shipping costs depend of many factors...
1. The harbour
2. Have the Roadsterbags to be transported with a truck to the next destination?
3. How far is it to the destination

I expect that the shipping for one conatiner will be around 1000,- €...but that's just an estimation...This could be more or less...

So if we got 20 buyers the shipping will be 50,00 € per person + shiping from the USA to their final destinations...

If we got 30 buyers the shipping will be 33,33 € per person + shipping from the USA to their final destinations.

If we got just 10 buyers the shipping will be around 100,00 € per person + shipping from the USA to their final destinations...In this case it is perhaps cheaper and faster, shipping them direct to their final destinations.

Therefore I asked if the e85 e86 or e93 drivers are also interested...to decrease shipping costs...

Furthermore I will contact DPD (our parcel service) for the exact shipping rates to the USA, if we ship each parcel individual here from germany

3. What about the idea with the dead line?
Perhaps we should collect orders untill the 31 december 2009?

4. The leader of the group buy
The leader of the group buy has to be a reliable person...
When we organize other group buys most of the group buy leaders are the administrators of the website...but this is just our experience

René

Thank you very much for your objective feedback riccis!

Just a few words regarding the quality... Roadsterbag is in europe OEM supllier for the car industry.

No problem. I hope my feedback has helped some of the other members interested in your products.

Now where do I send my invoice for writing the favourable review?

Just kidding. I hope you have continued success.

Sounds like this will stay under $500 total. Somebody tell me where to send how much and how I can be sure of proper handling and delivery of the order and I'm ready. (Good use of the BMW-CCA check for $500 I got as Membership Reward for buying the Z4.)

Hi Rene,

Thanks for your detailed answer. I have a couple of small follow-up questions.

- If we are talking about booking a full container load (FCL), then the typical containers come in two sizes: 20 feet and 40 feet. Both are 8.5 feet high and 8 feet wide. I would like to try to estimate the number of luggage sets that would fit in each container: can you please let us know the dimensions of the box in which you pack each set?

- While we haven't chosen a specific destination in the US for the container delivery yet, perhaps you can get the price for a 20 foot container from your factory to New York. From that point only the ground transportation of the container would lead to a difference in price.

Thanks,
Danny

Yes we will be sure under $500 total...even if we ship each parcel individualy from germany...

I would recommend sending the money via paypal to our paypal account, but I think first we have to decide how the group buy will be organized...

Tomorrow I will get the exact prices for shipping via parcel service from germany...

Hey Danny,

if we ship a container we will surely ship a 20feet container... It would be no problem to ship 150 sets if needed, but i do not expect such large quantities...

Tomorrow we know more concerning the shipping with DPD...

best regards

René

Not so sure the large flat bag is good for holding much. I wonder if they offer just the two larger bags as a set. What would you put in the flat bag?

I've been following this thread closely. Has anyone with a Z4 measured the depth available with the roof down? There are cheaper alternatives that are nicer looking (IMO) that would fit within the trunk from what I can discern.
Just looking at the trunk, a couple of duffle bags or medium-sized carry-on bags would fit.

It just seems like a bigger headache to arrange for this shipment than what it is worth. I've said my piece and I'll not comment further.

I'm beginning to feel the same. One can buy a couple nice bags for $100 each.

Yes you will pay instead german vat of 19% the american VAT which differs from state to state, furthermore you will have to pay an import duty...

The flat bags creates a flat level in your trunk...Otherwise the bigger suitcases will slope. Most of our customers like the flat bags and use it for underwear, socks etc.

in my opinion you can not compare some normal soft bags or duffle bags with custom made suitcases for a car...
A taylor made suit is something different than buying one in a big store

Do not forget if you compare soft bags with suitcases, that soft bags have no frame...

Hi Rene,

I live in the US. I recently purchased an item sent from a vendor in the UK who removed the VAT from his domestic price as this was an export shipment. Can I please ask you to confirm if you need to collect German VAT for a shipment you plan to export outside of the EU?

Thanks,
Danny
