Question Horn

How does the horn sound?

Beep beep or is it honk honk?

I would like a very dark sound, any tips?

Most definitely neither a beep nor a honk; more of a 'bleeeaaarrrgh', but the perceived pronunciation would be dependent on your mother tongue.
Either way, it's not only quite dark, but it has a certain authoritative teutonic air, which is cleverly designed to command the respect and admiration of fellow road users.
Alternatively, you could pop down to your local dealer and press that black thingy in the centre of the steering wheel.

You should work as a copywriter at BMW.

Yes, I surely do and loving every minute - thanks.
Can't wait for my Z4, but if you could let me have some details on that very interesting looking M3 model, it might provide an interim distraction.
Having said that, our 'nanny-state' government would probably ban it on the assumption that a 1/5th scale adult or a very small child could run amok in toy town.

Save gas - just call the dealer and ask him to toot while you listen, but don't hold the receiver too close to your ear - you might end up not having to worry about how anything sounds.

Good thinking, especially the Skype bit.
My only concern about the speaker-phone is that you might lose touch with reality and, to that effect, I have another suggestion:-
Why don't you buy a Z4 horn and bolt it onto your 320i. Just take extra care to observe the correct wiring polarity - if you reverse it the sound wouldn't be a 'bleeeaaarrrgh', it would be a 'hgrrraaaeeeelb'. Sounds more like a reindeer to me, but I would definitely defer to the superiority of Scandinavian hearing in that respect.

I give up! As long as it doesn't sound like an bagpipe i'll be happy.

I would just cut off the next Z4 that you see on the road then slam on the brakes.

Jon D,

The model is an FG Modellsport EVO series 1/5 scale racer. About 3 years old. It has a race tuned engine and Colari hydraulic 4 wheel anti-lock brakes. Several other custom goodies as well like a tuned limited slip differential, 5 shoe centrifical clutch and Samba exhaust system. It really screams and takes curves almost as good as my Z4.

New kits are around $3,000US plus another $2,000US for the engine tuning, hydraulic brakes and the differential. The body adds another $350US and the radio gear yet another $500US. I guess that's why they call them BIG BOYS TOYS !!!

Lot's of fun for the grandkids - especially when they run both of them at the same time !!!

If you call BMW in Munich, I believe they will be able to clarify which musical notes e.g. F minor etc. they blended to make the horn tone for the Z4. I've studied the manual and can find no reference to parping horn content!

Tried my horn today, doesn't sound like "bleeeaaarrrgh" at all.

Actually i'm a little bit dissapointed of this car!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The horn sounds by depressing the center of the steering wheel with either the palm of the hand or the finger tips.

My horn is programmed to shout an angry human voice instead of the beep beeps.

For example, instead of "Beep Beep beep beep beep beep beeeeeeeeeeep". Mine says : "Move outa my way you idiot"

Works good

BMW should allow us to download various horn sounds, like we can download ringtones to our phones.

In fact, any MP3 should be usable as a honk. If I want to use "Smoke on the water" or Monty Python's explosive version of the Blue Danube, I should be allowed to!
