My BMW Remote Mobile App Now Available

New mobile app lets customers access remote services for their vehicles.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ
– February 15, 2012… BMW announced that the My BMW Remote app is available for Apple iOS devices beginning today. This app allows many BMW customers to access remote features for their vehicle by using their mobile device and the power of BMW Assist. These features include remotely locking and unlocking of doors, getting the location of their parked vehicle, and sending Google Local Search results to their vehicle. Additionally, some customers will even be able to send a command to sound the horn or flash the headlights of their BMW.

Customers who have an active BMW Assist Safety Plan, a compatible vehicle, and an Apple device running iOS 4.0 or later will be able to download the app to their device starting today via the Apple iTunes store. No changes are required to their BMW. My BMW Remote operates on the customer’s mobile device, sending remote commands to their BMW.

My BMW Remote includes the following functions in detail:

VEHICLE POSITION – If the vehicle’s ignition is off, and it is located within 0.6 miles (1km) of the mobile device, the current vehicle location can be displayed on a map in the mobile device:

The following vehicles will have Remote Horn and Remote Flash Headlights available, in addition to Remote Door Lock & Unlock, Google Local Search, and Vehicle Position:

- 3 Series Sedan from Model Year 2012 or later
- 5 Series Gran Turismo from Model Year 2010 or later

My BMW Remote is just one of the many ConnectedDrive services available to BMW customers. BMW ConnectedDrive combines various elements from online applications, driver assistance systems, call center services and solutions for the integration of mobile devices. As a result, BMW customers are provided with an exceptional form of mobility, with more safety, more convenience, and more infotainment.

Here's a short clip we recorded of the app (in beta form) in action from the 2010 Paris Auto Show

You can use your BMW Assist user name and passcode. Make sure it is all CAPS for both user name and password.

Call BMW Assist. They should be able to tell your ID and password. My User ID is all upper-case and password is all lower-case.

I know this app (thread) is for Apple, but curious when this will be available for Android. Originally said fall '11 but......no sign of it yet. Anyone know or heard anything?

Wonder why BMW is so far behind in this area. OnStar cars have been offering this (and more) for a while. Best of all, it's also on Android. Good to see they are closing the gap tho...

i don't think it's behind in technology, it's just delayed due to all the legal BS they have to clear.

Ok, spent some time on the phone with a knowledgeable BMW Assist operator. She said the sign in screen was wrong. You cannot use your "MY BMW" sign in. You must use your email which is registered with BMW Assist and your BMW assist password, regardless of what the initial sign in screen says. Then your EMAIL MUST BE ENTERED IN ALL CAPS. Along with your PASSWORD.

What I don't get is that they have integrated the BMW Remote into the iPhone, yet the email functionally in the car is still limited to the Blackberry. Ugh... I wish they would get emails and texts working.

Mayhem,

The lack of email/texting functionality does not lie with BMW. It lies with Apple/iPhone.

The device lacks a specific messaging profile known as MAP, or Message Access Profile. This profile allows the device to communicate (via Bluetooth) emails & texts with the vehicle. This is up to the manufacturer to deliver on, not the car manufacturer. RIM & some Android devices (HTC Vivid, Samsung GSII etc) ship with the MAP profile.

Perhaps when iPhone5 comes out, it'll have the MAP feature you're looking for.

Tired all the options above and this one and now locked out. Guess I'm making a call.

Sad how awful this implementation has gone given the BMW name.
